RIZZO101:
Drivers that don’t get there cpc by sept 2014 can’t drive a truck legaly so you have broke your terms of employment an your boss won’t give you a second thought as leave jobless, so the 21 year old with his cpc complete and full of eagerness to fill your job will suddenly look like the better option.
Drivers you need to move with the times or get out of the industry its that simple
I dont think so…sounds like you have been spoon fed the dcpc , as ive said before you cant buy experience, so shelling out 400 quid aint going to make you mr number one driver me old mate…and why cant it be an option for the driver to take it or not…because the so called free country we all thought was great isnt anymore…its a dictator run country…you do as i say or else ! and the womans piece thats thinks he is doing a good job running the country …couldnt run a bath…its pay up for everything and its all hunky dory…my arse.
Ah… The wonderful dcpc debate, did my third module yesterday the firm pays for the course but we don’t get paid to attend.
Yesterday’s topic was digi tachos and it was good. Yes I said good ! I’ve been using them for about 3 years now but not all our wagons have them in.
The trainer was good , new his stuff and put it over well. Yes, it gets a bit boring and sometimes repetitive , but hell, worse things happen ,
It ain’t going away, so let’s chill and go with the flow.
PS I’m not a newby , bin at it since 1978 and am 60 next year, yippee another medical ,now don’t start me on that !!!
Jim.
The DCPC is badly put together but is not wholly bad. Most industries that involve any safety aspect require periodic training. Most of these would insist on taking an exam at some point. The DCPC doesn’t…

because if it was optional no one would do it. do you think driving tests should be optional as well?
a free country doesn’t mean you can do anything you want.

It’s crap but could be worse I’d say.
i think the DCPC should have exams, but could you imagine the outcry if it got brought in

the cpcs scheme requires you to have done the job for a few hours a year, they dont have to pay extra for 35 hours.
btw, ive heard many a driver say “when i get my driver cpc im gonna be an owner driver” haha
Now you are taking the ■■■■…we all know that taking a test is mandatory but you do have the choice whether to take one or not…let me put it another way for you…if i stick a carrot up youre arse and you wear glasses it doesnt mean you will need to get rid of the glasses and you can see ten times better . if you think its a good thing pay ya money and be a good boy …thats your option my option is i wont be paying for it…it wont benefit me in any shape or form.
Thankfully I don’t wear glasses,
Thanks for clarifying that
… but just to note :
It’s attendance time that counts ,
there is no testing involved currently.

leaving your carrot and arse obsession aside, then that is your choice, i won’t be paying for it either at the moment as it won’t benefit me either, but it might in the future.

carrots and arses, fair play fella
Its not an obsession , and you missed the point ! just because a guy thats 21 just passed and has the DCPC isnt going to make him any more employable than a 45 yr old with vast experience…plus the insurance cost…drivers that have had 25 yrs + are going to be more the option than the young lad that sat there yawning through the 35 hrs of BS, as said YOU cant buy experience…ffs it stands to reason.

dude, i didn’t miss the point, i obviously agree with most of what you’ve just wrote, it’s common sense. but it doesn’t change the fact that a 21 year old with a DCPC is a better option than an experienced driver without it once it is needed
A newly qualified driver who passed the initial dcpc gets a DQC which is valid for 5 years so does that give them more or less of a chance of being employed than a driver of say 5 years who has no hours of periodic dcpc
The DSA are putting pressure on drivers to do the DCPC…its another tax on a driver unless he gets it free gratis through the company…but its still his free time and wont get paid for it…im classed as an old ■■■■ and i only want another couple of yrs trucking because im semi retired now…the money would be to fund my hobbys…but if push comes to shove i wont pay for it DCPC…and i dont aggree with it at all…sorry its got a bit heated but it just makes my ■■■■ boil that we sit back and take all this crap…everythings fine if you pay, people just dont have money to do courses that are not going to benefit there life style or income or improve there driving skills…HS gone mad.
In answer to the premise that DCPCs are going to be “the professional qualification that will make us respected”, can I just remind everyone that that is exactly what we were told when the HGV test was introduced.
Just another mad scheme dreamed up by some brainless numpty in Brussells who doesn’t give a sh*t who pays for it.
Winseer:
There’s a good chance that DCPC will quietly get dropped as a “legal requirement”, because if it’s pressed home, there will be such a sudden drop in the number of licenced drivers, that pay would soar above £20ph overnight.
The suit fiends can’t be having that can they?
Therefore, I suggest it’s not going to happen.
I agree, I think it will either be dropped or delayed. And I’ve got no vested interest in saying that, I’ve completed mine and got the card.
I am afraid that you might be wrong on that. As lot of British drivers without CPC will drop off the market, the rates will go up and then it will atract Eastern European drivers again, who have CPC for years and for whom is just the normal thing to do.
And then we’ll have all that complaining about “Poles stealing our jobs” again.
My main objection to the DCPC is the fact that there is no testing, a pointless task. To me any form of training without testing is a complete waste of time, it’s a confirmation that the student has taken in what has been taught. Also it’s so poorly administered that, and this has been mentioned before, you could take the same seven hour period five times. Yes I know what the trainers will say, why would you. The point is you could, surely that should not be allowed to happen. Until its sorted out It will be no more than a joke qualification. As for getting more respect, off who? Joe public could not care less as long as the shelves are full and they get their deliveries on time. More money, don’t make me laugh, bosses will not be giving any more than they have to. They have the knack of finding cheap labour and a ready trained bunch from eastern Europe would suit them down to the ground.
As for us old geezers being replaced with the young well good luck with that. Don’t see queues forming at the jobcentreplus just yet but I would expect to see accidents going up. Mind you on the plus side the two year experience thing would disappear.
