Winseer:
Are there not some who’ve completed their 5th module before September this year, and will then find themselves owing 7 hours when the 2008 module rolls off September next year?
Full timers I know have been doing one single 7 hour module for the last 5 years, so doing it like that, I’m thinking you have to do another new one each and every year?
No 35 hours training before the cut off date lasts until 2019 if you did 35 hours training the week after it comes in in 2014 that would see you through yo 2024.
Drift:
Nope, but looking forward to a few Saturdays overtime at time and a half for the course’s
Our day drivers found themselves doing Saturday DCPC courses, but they weren’t paid anything for them. The other night driver and I were also “invited” to attend, but I pointed out that we couldn’t do it legally under the RTD rules, where training counts as other work. In short, I have better things to do with my Saturdays than sit in a classroom unpaid being told stuff I already know! Now I’m doing the full course over one week in January, and being paid for it too.
kr79:
We never got paid for the course but company paid for it. Quite a few firms round our way aint paying for the course at all.
I certainly wouldn’t be working for long for anyone who wouldn’t at least pay to put me through the course. As I see it, companies are always willing to invest in new trailers or units; is it so unreasonable to expect them to invest in their staff occasionally?
Can someone post the link to finding out how much you have done? Did a couple of courses around the time it started but not sure if they counted.
Our lot pay for the courses on a Saturday, but it’s unpaid and in Swindon so doesn’t sound attractive on either count.
Anyone signed an agreement that they must pay back the cost of any courses if they leave?
don’t worry about it. If there is a shortage, the government will either suspend/scrap/ modify the requirement or make it free or start a tennez la droit system to make the eastern labour market accessible. Self drive cars available 2016, wagons 2020
Muckaway:
For those paying for themselves would you just find the cheapest (I would to tick all boxes and save a few quid) or do you invest in quality training?
If I was having to pay for it myself, I think I’d do things like a HIAB course, a First Aid At Work course and other stuff which is useful in itself and which would count towards my CPC> As it is, my work are paying for some CPC training, then putting me through my ADR a bit early to top the rest of it up. As long as they pay for it, I don’t really care.
got mine in March
started on the first course run at Warwick uni
done by Fraikin and Truck n Driver in 2009
and did bits each year until now
finished it at Argos Magna this year
Just done session 4 of 5 today. Last session booked in December.
I have done “safe loading” 3 times and “manual handling” 3 times now… doesn’t everyone have to do “manual handling” training at work anyway despite dcpc? Even the trainers admit it’s a bit of a sham. I could do the same modules every time and still “pass”. All I have to do is answer multiple choice questions (which he gives the answers to by saying “you might want to make a note of this”) and turn up.
Two instructors have said they find it nigh on impossible to stretch the digi tacho module out for 3 and a half hours.
Moaning aside, I have learned something new on every course, even if it was due to the instructor going off on a tangent and telling an unrelated story!
For example, did you know that if someone runs a red light and you hit them whilst going through a green light you are 40% responsible? And I also didn’t know that emergency vehicles are not allowed to overtake you if there is a solid white line separating lanes, so yes I have learned a few things even if they weren’t on the course content.
Same as that with the bloke that’s done ours. He has been a driver and knows what it’s like in the real world.
As you say picked bits up that have been nothing to do with the course as people have been passi g on things that have happened to them plus what have learned off the course sylabus.
I’d say of the training I’ve had could have picked up the useful stuff up in a couple of hours tops.
Did my last one on Tuesday, card arrived today (sat). Can’t say i picked up anything new. It was hard work just trying to stay awake sometimes, even our ‘instructor’ nodded off during one of the videos that we have all seen a hundred times, that was the highlight…
