Well that’s my time in self isolation up. I’m allowed to mix with the public again
It’s been quite nice just being tucked away at home. Not so much fun for my seven year old son though.
Can I ask if you were ever tested?
So, do you know you have had, and recovered from it, and cant catch it again nor pass it on?
Or, are you still as vulnerable as everyone else?
I’m glad someone asked because I can explain the whole crap of it.
Sometime in late Feb my brother in law and nephew went skiing in northern Italy, before anything really kicked off. They came back, brother in law had a cold (so he thought) and nephew had nothing but again at that point nothing was really being done. I popped over on February 29th to see my nephew for his birthday, seen him for about ten minutes before he scurried back off to his teenage tosspit with card and money to spend on whatever it is he was going to spend it on. The end.
Only it wasnt.
A full week and a day went by when I got a call from my sister to say that they’d both felt unwell, had tests on the grounds they’d been to Italy and tested positive and that public health were contact tracing. Except we got no call so I went to work on Monday morning (shipping out over the water), my mrs went to her work (in a childcare setting) and my lad went to school. My wife decided to call Public Health after getting the all clear to carry on working, they said we all needed to self isolate because we had contact with a confirmed case.
Now none of us felt unwell, so none of us got tested because we had no symptoms so apparently didnt need it. We just got told to stay away from people and public places for 14 days after Feb 29th which is today. All through it none of us have felt unwell and on the Thursday the advice changed so we could effectively go back to school/work on the Friday but in the end we all thought sod it
So to answer your questions, if we’ve had it we didnt know, and weve not been tested because we didnt have any symptoms. If we have/had it we’re asymptomatic so could be spouting it forth to all and sundry unwittingly, but we’ve followed all guidelines given to us. I guess we are as vulnerable as anyone else still but at the end of the day “I’ve done my bit” and taken a hit for the good of the people as far as I can.
Many questions though. I mean I was only really in isolation for three days by the time I got I over the water and home, my wife and son for four and a half, so what about the previous ten days or so? I guess it didnt matter. It didn’t to PHE who just trotted out the 14 day line.
One thing I will say is peoples reactions are ridiculous. When I finished work it was like I was wearing a pathogenic bomb vest given some of the looks I got. Which I’ve raised with HR because obviously confidentiality didnt last long at all. It’s that bad that “in real life” I’ve told nobody why I’ve been off work.
