Are you a pusher, a puller or both?

Here’s the set-up:

You’re driving down a single carriageway road at the speed limit. The road is straight, level and smooth. In the distance you can see that the road will bend to the left.

You get to the bend and steer around it, then continue on your way.

Question:
Did you

  1. Push the right side of the wheel with your right hand
  2. Pull the left side of the wheel with your left hand
  3. Use both hands in combination?

(Ok, I could’ve asked that more simply but where’s the fun in that!)

Hopefully there should be a poll attached to get your thoughts

Puller with left hand but feed through right hand as it is easier to do as well as being the SAFEST method

Push the right till my hand is at the top then pull down the left side, mostly using the friction of my hand.
I’m a one-handed driver

Pull…

My left hand is usually busy gently mixing Bombay Saphire with Indian tonic water.

Interesting. I find that I have finer control when extending my arm, so am mostly a “pusher”, but I’m interested in ROG’s

feed through right hand as it is easier to do as well as being the SAFEST method

  • Not sure I fully understand that …

I posed the question as I did because I am interested in the small but accurate steering needed for country roads rather than the major steering input of roundabouts, junctions etc.

I’ve found that when I use both hands “equally” that there’s almost a battle between them for who’s in control.

*Loving the Bombay Saphire method though

I use whichever hand that is not holding the mobile phone/can of Stella.

No preference, my choice of arm to use is usually dictated by which arm shoulder or wrist is aching the least at any given time

I’m with ROG on this one. Robert

Use the right, the left will be floating around near that daft thing sticking out the floor.

Only a gentle curve?
No need for hands, I just lean a little and let my drivers beer belly move the wheel. Doesnt work too well if my vest is greasy with bacon fat dripping from my sarnies though.

mine is autonomous…so it steers itself…thankfully…ha ha

Having said that decent light steering allows a lot of flexibility regarding different types of methods to suit different situations and preferences. To the point where I’ve usually palmed the wheel through tight turns around mini roundabouts for example.Or just one hand can sometimes also cover turns of the wheel between the 9 o clock and 3 o clock positions.Whereas something without power steering would often by necessity need the push and pull method.IE pull down with the right hand bringing the left down to meet it at the 6 o clock position then push up with the left hand bringing the right up to meet it meet it at the 12 o clock position so on so forth in old school bus driver style and which the Advanced Driver lot still seem to want used regardless of vehicle type or situation.

And Dipper would be wishing …

I’m really confused by all this hand movement on the steering wheel. I was brought up by using the left hand for making tea, right hand for the mobile and the elbows steer the truck.

Really ? … Are we that bored we now have a poll to find out such trivial crap FFS :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Bit premature for the awards yet RobRoy?
Saturday night “home from the pub” posts to enter yet. Although many of those will go straight to Bully`s or make overtime for the Mods probably.

Being a conspiracy theorist…Is this the new method of the ‘T’ word?
Rather than the usual come on with a beligerant thread just to attract a response, we’ll come up with the most bloody stupid pointless and ridiculous questions and make a poll out of it. :bulb:

Is this the new age, cleansed style Trucknet ? :unamused:
Come back Beaver, Donkey and the Tramp,.all is forgiven.

Well none of them, I steer with my knees…
