Hi toot toot, i was just about to mention unkles when i read your post. Used to see them in Mallaig when i worked for Robert Croan (croan for kippers) who later merged with Salvesens.
What about Christian Salvesen whose head office was in Edinburgh and the company they took over when they started in road transport. Daniel Stewart of Blairgowrie. Regards Jamie

Did DB Marshall also run their own trucks? I used to deliver oil into Newbridge and got to see a lot of the regular guys who would always give us a flash.

That must have been Marshalls “chunkey chicken” then. They had a driver based in Lockerbie I think who used to leave his trailer in the old council yard where GGD used to changeover in the 70s. We sent an agency driver up there one night with instructions to wait for the Newbridge trunk driver "from Scotland " and instead of waiting for the GGD trunker he dropped his n/bound trailer and whizzed away south with “chunky chicken” that had been ticking over. Luckily the Marshalls driver spotted him in the village as he was on his way for it and stopped him a few miles south on the 74.

Hi Stavaiger It’s a small world mate ,I also worked out of Burn’s yard at the top end of Newarthill . I was a bit later than you though, about 1986/87.
I worked for a company based in Lesmahagow but I lived in Newarthill , when I was home I would leave my trailer in burn’s yard and take the unit home. I lived next to vicarburn motors on the main street so the unit got dumped in there.
Burns transport were in deed based in the north east and I knew most of the Newarthill guy’s although dont ask me any names , well apart from wee Davie mc Gurrell (sorry about the spelling) I think he was the manager.
I still regulary see Davie driving about ,he’s got a couple of red 3 series scanies . He seems to do a lot of work out of Bone steel in Netherton.
.
Stewart Cameron (Drymen) were associated with William Molyneux Transport, who were from Hesketh Bank, near Preston - not Newton-le-Willows as previously stated.
