Had a call from a very large company today who i applied for a job with ! so far so good so we have a quick chat and i ask what the money is she says i cant discuss that on the phone but you will be told at the interview she then goes on to inform me i will have a 2 hour driving assessment followed by an interview so i said surely that’s the wrong way round after all after i have the interview the remuneration or something else may not be what imm prepared to accept likewise i may not be what you are looking for making the assessment drive a pointless exercise she then says in a rather upperty tone do you want a job or not my reply was i don’t no as i have no information to make that decision she then says why did you apply then i reply it was a speculative enquiry needless to say i wont be taking that any further really do they expect you to use your digi card for am assessment so your current employer is aware that your looking for another job when you don’t no enough about the job to take the chance is it me am i wrong ?

I don’t think you are wrong IMO. If wages/conditions were ok,why hide it?
As you rightly say…do you want your current gaffer knowing that you are considering jumping ship?
What ever happened to being up front with people instead of wasting every ones time
Typical of a large company that, then treat you like ■■■■ cause they think you owe them for setting you on 
I’d never drive a truck for assessment before knowing at least the money and shifts on offer, the interview can wait if I can get a few essential details out the way.
Sounds like you dodged a bullet, name and shame 
It’s a no win situation regarding your present employer finding out. At some point they are going to know you have driven someone else’s vehicle by which time hopefully you will have found the job you want. Best of luck with your search.

Joker i take no offence but really ? the rate is the rate it wont be up for negotiation regardless of your skills as a driver , i have no issues with the need for an assessment but i will not do one when they wont tell me anything about the job ie wages ■■■■■ ect maybe that’s why we are treated as we are because people like you panda to there whims no offence mate
Seems ridiculous to waste everyone’s time and effort.
But then if they can get you using your card, then that could unsettle your current employment. Seems like a dirty tricks campaign to me.
I wouldn’t have gone with it either. No indication of pay, gets listed on your tacho, still possibility of not getting it since interview not conducted.
Surely it costs them more, a manager for an hour isn’t going to cost more than an assessor & truck for 2 hours?

I spoke to a “recruitment company” they other day & the guy was trying to arrange for me to go for a Montgomery’s interview, telling me the rate of pay was £10 to £11 per hour on days - I didn’t believe the “recruitment company” as I’m sure I’ve read of Montgomery’s transport being just over £8 an hour on days?
