Anyone still use CBS?

Sploom:
If I am in a 30 zone,I dont pull over because someone behind wants to break the law,so why should I pull over on the a75,by pulling over ,I’m using up valuable time,I’m already disadvantaged because Im sticking to the speed limits.
If you are on the limiter all the time on the a75 you have an u fair advantage,I wish they would put cameras on the whole length of that road, not because I like to see other drivers prosecuted, but because,I shouldnt be economically disadvantaged for simply following the highway code.
I’ve had trucks tailgating me,bullying behaviour when I’m doing 60 in my car!I thought trucks were supposed to be limited to 56.You might find it funny, but the road isn’t owned by trucks,I pay my taxes and I am entitled to drive without being hassled

I’m with you about 80% of that.
I’ll stick to the speed limits as it’s MY licence…unless it’s for MY benefit of course.
As for ‘using valuable time’, I’m never in a rush anyhow, it makes for a less stressful life.
I will pull over on the 75, as I have been in the ‘trying to catch the boat’ situation myself in the past…only time I don’t is if I’m attempted into being ‘bullied’ (term used loosely) into it…a quick step on the exhaust brake usually sorts that, but I’ll still pull over next lay by after he gets my point.

Why are you bothered about advantages and disadvantages btw, unless you are an owner driver, (or on an illegal incentive bonus.)

I agree about the average type speed cameras, they seem to be more successful at sorting the job out, the only reason they are not as widespread is because of their success as a deterrent, …so not as much money raised from them, but that’s the cynic in me talking.

As for being a taxpayer, so what,?..we all are, :bulb:
So I miss the relavance of you telling us that tbh.

CBs…I was there when they first came out illegally,.I used one up to about 98, but then it became an attraction for f/whits and d/heads rather than primarily truckers, so I knocked it on the head,.as I can not be arsed with either.

I’m not an owner driver, but I cant work on Irish routes because, before long, they would be asking me why I’m taking an extra 45 miniutes between stranraer and Carlisle because I’m sticking to the speed limits ,so Im sure you agree that it’s not fair that only the drivers who are prepared to be on the limiter all the time will be able to do these routes.
Dont get me wrong,Im not trying to stop someone overtaking, but on the a75,you will need to pull on every five minutes to let the speeding lorries past, and this will increase your journey time even more.
Yes ,dont blame you for giving up CBS,I couldntbe doing with listening to those idiots either.
I drive my car on the A75 and I have had trucks harassing me on my bumper, blowing g the horn when I slowed down to 30 through the village, they have no right to do this, its bullying behaviour

Simple answer , tell your firm WHY you take 45 mins extra (45? are you sure) between Stranraer and Carlisle, there is not a thing they can do…and rest assured the knobheads who are risking their licence to be their bosses best mate will sooner or later come a cropper in one way or another sooner or later. :bulb:

I just let them at my firm crack on with it in their naivety, and laugh at how ■■■■ thick they are, so they don’t ‘bother’ me one way or another as such.
Same as the ■■■■ on your car back bumper in 30 zones, just ignore him and give him a chance to pass further up the road, on his way to his first stress related heart attack.

As for pulling over 'every 5 mins (bit of an exaggeration btw) at least you could pull over at intervals as I do, it ain’t my job to marshall other drivers to keep them under the limit, I ain’t interested…lifes too short.
Maybe I’m just too laid back in the job.

Time and time again I’ve said sit@ 50mph on 75 and the Subbies/Manfreight won’t sit up yer arse flashing lights/blasting horns!!! :grimacing:

Plod also won’t bother you either as proven month ago@ Dunragit 0250 and laser pointed right@ me 50mph and didn’t bat an eyelid.
They’ve overtaken me@ 50mph in “big cars” plenty of times too.

Hours of 0200/0630 on 75 its everyman for himself and fill yer boots!!! :sunglasses:

Yes,fully agree ,Robroy.
Big truck, with all due respect, nobody has any authority to tell other drivers to drat 50 through a 40mph zone. You need to tell the powers that be to increase the limit, then I will be happy to sit at 50.

Cheers mate,
That’s decided it, you’ve convinced me.

And just to add, there are those on this forum that are quick to have a go at me if I say something out of line,or they tell me I need to take my test again, name calling and so on…
Now that we are talking about drivers breaking the speed limit, where are these guys now?
The silence is deafening

^^^^ I think that most have already formed an opinion and simply can’t be arsed.

It is too much effort to do 40 on there ,easier to get a que behind you then let them go shake the bushes and follow on n join the club

Somebody mentioned the A75, someone said bloody plobbers doing 38, then the usual, breaking the law comments.

I was meaning the ‘I should retake my test’ and ‘name calling’ bit.

0300 and your coming up to the lights@ Springholm 30mph with a “Plobber” behind you.
Speed up to a massive 32mph and they switch red just as you go through and “Plobber” hits the anchors.

No better feeling in the world!!!  :grimacing:

Its a great game to play - also great fun sitting behind cars sitting at the red lights blowing the horn and giving the ones sitting at the lights when your going the other way the coffee beans wave .lol :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

A change of attitude is needed,I think, those of you who use the 75

Got your ears on good buddy? CBs were for sad twts when they were popular back in the day (think Convoy or Smokey & The Bandit). You’d do better to get a life or read a fcking book, or put the radio on or just about anything else to pass your driving or break time.

CB’s were almost mandatory back in the 70’s/80’s here in the states when the national speed limit was 55 mph. You had your ‘front door’ and your ‘back door’ then all the trucks in between were in the ‘rocking chair’, ha ha, real Smokey and the Bandit stuff. A lot of cops would have a CB in their cruiser’s and monitor channel 9 which was used as an emergency channel. Some would get on channel 19 which was known as the truckers channel and talk to truckers, the good’uns would tell you to slow down if you were going a bit over and the really good’uns would just say keep on trucking driver I’m not bothering you.

Some cops did play sneaky though and pretend to be another trucker telling them it was ‘clean and green’ while the cop was waiting to nab them with radar.

Truckian99 , : what say some thing so pathetic !! i thought we were adults on here ?

It was pretty much the same over here, 80/81sh when I got into CBs,.we even had them in our cars at weekends ffs
We bought the illegal ones off the Paddys on the ferry, those sets were legal in Eire at that time.
We all used the American CB slang :unamused: …(making complete 2hats of ourselves  ) dressed in ‘gear jamming’ body warmers 501s and Cowboy boots (or was that just me?  ) driving an old Atkinson or a 2800 DAF or something.
There were a couple of Traffic Cops on on the air, I personally knew one who was a driver himself at weekends who used to wind me up on the CB  (in a friendly way) but a lot of coppers were different in those days.
Good old days they were, and not a hi viz behind a wheel, or a sat nav, in sight .
Not a lot of '‘steerers’ on the road in those days either I recall, but that had no connection with CBs
(Removing my rose coloured shades right now. )
