I saw this at the Dartford Tunnel on Thursday Lunchtime and wondered what it was…
Bedford but as for the exact model im not sure bit i know someone who does.
Not convinced that it is a Bedford actually
could even be one of the lesser known Swiss makes like FWB
Well it’s right hand drive and looks ■■■■ similar to one we had sat at our place for a bit.

Didnt the Swiss have r/h/d trucks in the 50s, same as the Ities ?
The wheel arches look a bit too wide for a Bedford and i wouldnt have thought that a uk motor would be fitted with mirror arms that long in those days.

The Italians built a lot of righthand drive motors for use in Italy they reckoned it was a lot safer on some of those tight winding narrow mountain roads, and yes the Swiss did the same.
look at the picture
it a complete restauration job matching teailer and tractor unit from the same era
registration is god knows where but may hazard a guess at Leichtenstein ? the other markings particularly around the rear indicators would never ever have been found in this country.
I don’t know what it is, but the front hubs have a bit of the Bedford about them, mirror arms & lights are easy to change so you can’t discount it being a Bedford on that alone, as has been said it could be a Saurer or some other long forgotten manufacturer, it would’ve been easier if the photo had included the front as there would’ve been a badge with the name on it
neither the mirrors nor the side window look Bedford but as you say we could speculate all night from that angle
The line along the door under the window looks like a Mercedes to me, but like you say, from that angle it could be anything.
The reg no is French, from Strasbourg area.
I’d say it was a Bedford OB with a Scammell coupling.
The mirrors don’t look standard though.
Its a Bedford O series not sure over the exact variant but i have just had my arrse chewed off by my Dad for not recognizing the fact that we have a ‘O’ series rigid in our garage right now all sign written in the company colours and i walk passed it most days. (DOH!)
As said before from that angle difficult
it could even be a verson of one of these a Matford actually built in France unfortunately there are very few fotos of one of these for an accurate comparison
Matford
Bedford is a possibility but I would have thought it a bit too light for an O Series
and if a Bedford might just be inclined to go for a tractor unit version of the lighter K Series ■■?
I think a Bedford OS
Ray
i’d go for Bedford except for the mirrors…
Possibly an Austin, known as the Birmingham Bedford.
Still reckon it’s a Bedford.
Seem to remember the headlights on an Austin were a lot higher than the Bedford.
Also seem to remember the cab on the Austin was more box shaped.
Ray
The wing ,the cab ,the step & the petrol tank are all Bedford.
It’s a Bedford you could bet on it.
1950 Bedford OSS (tractor unit version of our motor) The trailer is a 3ton Scammell ex Ministry of Defence .
Thats your answer now have it and like it. As for the mirrors they have probably been changed for something of the owners preference as the original mirrors were about as big as the open end of a teacup according to someone who drove them for a living.
