I’d do it, but like many who have said they will, not even near you
Just wondering, is it DigiCard?
Governor!:
My Boss is looking for a couple of Weekend Sat/Sun class one drivers, with the option of a Friday if wanted. Take home would be £90 per day after tax/NI, £270 for the three days, you would be sharing the truck with me, its a nice clean Scania.
Work is from Aldi depot in Chelmsford, 3/4 am start normally finished by 3/4pm, trailer already loaded for first run to a store, you tip, return to depot load trailer go to another store tip and back home! 85% driving, 15% tip & loading. Might suit someone looking for a part time job, its a good reliable friendly company, with a nice fleet of scanias!!
Anyone interested drop me a Pm with contact info and i’ll call ya back with all the info about the work!
12hr weekend shift, crack of arse start for £108 a day so £9/hr. FOR A WEEKEND?
SOD THAT. Thats the kind of money I was getting for Sundays in 1993

I take your point H but as Guvnor says, they are struggling to fill the seat.
I’m not surprised. That was the kind of pay I was getting in Hull for weekends TWENTY YEARS AGO.

As Wayne said it’s low for weekend work?As soon as I saw the post, I knew someone would say that, but in general I would say that the days of being paid significantly more for weekend work are over now.
Its crap for weekday work as well. At least £1.50/hr less than I was on when I last drove a wagon in 2008.
No wonder they can afford shiny blinged up motors. Perhaps if they got them without the bling and paid more money they’d find drivers.
Can’t pay for my weekly shopping at Tescos with a chrome light bar and wheel trims from my bosses truck.

I’d be wanting $300/$350 on top…for sat/sun aloneSome people are just so greedy. I am lucky to get 260 take home for 6 days work on the buses.
Indeed! And some people are willing to accept ■■■■ money for ■■■■ work just to get off the bus work! IF it was a cushty number it would already be gone, I have done this kind of work, and it’s a pain in the arris.

Yes, and just up the coast people were building ships TWENTY YEARS AGO.
Travel across the Pennines and people were working in the garment industry TWENTY YEARS AGO.
I was taking home £3,000 a month driving to eastern Europe TWENTY YEARS AGO.
What’s your point?
I’ll just clarify my point a little.
As is quite well-known, I’m putting a truck on the road some time in the next month or so, which I will drive myself.
I will have to take a 45 hour break at the weekend, and I’ve made tentative enquiries about putting a driver on my truck at the weekend.
I would have the following choices.
A) Pay the driver £90 a day, and make £20 profit for my time and trouble dealing with the administration, making and receiving phone calls all over the weekend, sorting out problems, breakdowns and punctures etc or
B) Pay the driver £110 a day and make nothing at all for doing the above, or
C) Pay the driver £150 a day and lose £40 every time he drives out of the yard. or
D) Just park it up, go home, go back on Monday and forget about giving somebody a job.
There is nothing stopping Conor- or anybody else- putting a hundred trucks on the road and paying the drivers £150 a day, every day… apart from their complete and total failure to understand even the most basic rules of commerce.
A jobs a job and that money is not too bad if it’s take home! I’d do it but I live too far away Govenor!
Don’t let those pallets tip over though! Especially on those Dusseldorf pallet thingys! Then it becomes a PITA job!

Harry, I’ve not long put my own truck on the road.
Point A. £20 profit, don’t bother, if you employ a driver who can’t deal with every day problems such as punctures, breakdowns etc, don’t bother.
Point B. Don’t bother.
Point C. Don’t bother.
Point D. That’s the way to go

I’d be wanting $300/$350 on top…for sat/sun aloneWell, you could want it, but since a truck would be doing well to gross £500 on a Saturday or Sunday, I doubt you’d get it.
some companies don`t rely on the transport arm of their buisness to make money…these are the companies that pay the best rates.
the problem you have is either do you work for an agency and get maybe 12-16 per hour sat and sun but know work may well die down or take the guaranteed work. i must admit i wouldnt fancy every weekend as it does soon get very tedious maybe the op could look at a rota or something to make it a bit more appealing to others say work 3 out of 4 but get a mon/tues instead on the 4th week?
Four-on four-off is a good system, I’ve done that myself and it’s the best of both worlds.
Sounds like good money to me, I did 62 hours and cleared just over £400, class 2 and trolleys, between 5/10 drops in the Home Counties and London Central.
3 days for that money and work, ummmm yes please

That was my thoughts. You can always top up your money with odd weekdays on agency

Strange that this wasn’t snapped up straight away, some right greedy saddos out ‘there’.

Harry , in life there are those that do things and those sit around ■■■■■■■■, Conor and all like him fall firmly in the later camp.
How many of the “I was on that in the 90s” brigade are still working for the same company? Are those employers still in business?
It’s a cruel world out their at the moment, and £90 a day ain’t a bad rate for an easy job, however if you feel your time is better spent whining about the old days on the internet carry on.

oh i understand…the only way you can get work for your truck is by doing it at a cheap rate, then you expect the driver to take up the slack.

Well, I can’t find work that would pay enough to pay a driver the £300-350 a day on top of a normal wage that you mention, but if you can then I suggest you put your own truck on the road and do it.
