Another mate didn’t last 2 weeks, says it was maxed out hours every day/week.

I’ve never understood why people don’t like maxing their hours out. If it’s legal to run to your maximum, what’s the problem? It’s better than going over them all the time.

Good luck with it BB.

I don’t like maxing hours because I have a life outside of work. I work to live not live to work.

True, but some people just want 8 or 10 hours a day. They should be working for the local Council, School or Doctors Surgery if they want an easy life, not driving wagons ! Lol.

I don’t want to max my hours or anywhere near it, I’ve got 2 kids I want to see grow up

Thanks very much, it did sound like I wouldn’t necessarily be doing much container work and as I’ll be sharing with a night man I’m assuming 11 or 12 hr shifts would be normal. I look forward to your reply.

not really I’ve landed a nice little number 8 - 9 - max 10hrs a night load and go tip and reload then pop on back have me break (as much as I need as long as I do the required 45 at some point ) somewhere , into the yard drop trl fuel up park up go home… I’ve done the years of hard work on gen and the other stuff so its easy wind down time …

You can work lots of hours if you want… (daft enough?)

But you can also do pretty well on a lot less.

Doesn’t follow driving an LGV means no other life…

just one thing BB

If your doing 4 on 4 off you’ll be sharing with 3 others
driver 1 you 4 on. driver 2 nights 4 on .
driver 3 off when ur on and the same as the night guy …
so as long as they all keep the motor tidy it’ll be ok

Yes iv had the general max out the hours jobs for last 15 years changed late last year to local container work average 10-12 hr a day although the odd 15 can creep in if things go wrong as can the occasional night out.
Some drivers blame this job for failings in their life Iike kids going off the rails and marriage going down the pan saying " it’s this job that’s done it"
Jobs are out there where you can have a life and the 4 on 4 off at maritime would leave a bit of time for home life, although 4 on 4 off personally wouldn’t suit me as I do like my weekends

I had an interview with a very decent fella called Colin at Maritime Liverpool, money seemed ok’ish, decent tackle, but couldn’t get my own unit until i’d cab-hopped for a few months, been in the game too long for that malarkey, also it seems very rules orientated if you listen to other jockeys. They like ex forces lads.
Having been a tanker driver for nearly 20 yrs i’m changing direction completely and going for a bash at Transporters…marmite time I believe.

@Mr Physick

The same thing my mate said when he went for an interview with Abbey Logistics.
They told him he would be cab hopping for up to 10 months, so he politely declined the job offer.
have you been working on fuel tankers? What you don’t like about this job then?
