Anybody doing the new hours

The relaxed rules were due to end tomorrow, however because no puppies were killed the Guvnorment and RHA Hot Tub party have relaxed the regulations again.

In response to unprecedented pressures on local and national supply chains, the Department for Transport has pursuant to Article 14(2) of Regulation (EC) No 561/2006, introduced a temporary and limited urgent relaxation of the enforcement of EU drivers’ hours rules in England, Scotland and Wales. It has also introduced a temporary and limited urgent relaxation of the enforcement of GB drivers’ hours rules in England, Scotland and Wales.

This relaxation began on 23 March and was due to end on 21 April 2020.

A specific review of the continuation of the relaxations past 21 April has been conducted and, on the basis of the current evidence, a decision has been made to continue with the relaxations, (apart from the relaxation on break requirements) until 23:59 on Sunday 31 May 2020.

What’s the last sentence on about , apart from the relaxation on break requirements ?

^^^^^^:^^
How long for?
I need to know.
(so I can make a note to carry on taking no ■■■■ notice of it when I start back :unamused: )

The reasons these rules have been relaxed is
You couldn’t make it up , we’ve got a driver who takes four days ( or that’s how long his planer thing it will take him , knows the driver well obviously ) to go from Easton - Andover & shunt a couple of local tris , and another who’s best effort to help out when this national crisis is going on is to volunteer to sit on his ■■■ for the duration while getting ■■■■■■ up criticising drivers who are out there getting stuck in and doing what they should do be doing , a days work

I’ve a 7.30 start Bridgwater ,10 am collection Shepton mallet , 16 .00 tip crick ( earlier hopefully , then below , so I’ll need to use new hours + some !!

Thanks

Had this put up on our board yesterday… I just stick to my normal driving hours…3.5hrs/night

 Maybe I’m being pedantic here but the term ‘relaxation’ always sounds to me like they’re putting a spin on it as if they think they’re doing us all a favour cos… we’re all chomping at the bit for them to ‘allow’ us to work even more hours, so they’re ‘letting’ us do so as some kind of favour by ‘‘relaxing’’ the rules. :unamused:
Well thanks very much, it’s what I’ve always wanted. :unamused:

Ok maybe it’s just me, but ‘‘adjusting’’ or ‘‘adapting’’ would probably not annoy me as much.
But hey!..I get annoyed very easy with these ■■■■ s. :bulb:

I was told today that I WILL reduce my daily rest to 9hrs and I WILL drive 11hrs if needs be and there is nothing I can do about it. Plenty agency workers about if I don’t like it…

have you ever heard of the saying…the tail dont wag the dog?

No pointy shoe planner can tell you how many hours to drive and have less rest just because of Covid relaxation changes , it’s up to the driver as you have the keys , pointy shoe lad with a £15 shiny suit from George clothing line at Asda , doesn’t have the keys when you’re 500 miles away from their office at Mad Dog logistics ltd .
Or another corporate lingo of " Another load off your mind ."

Or Logical logistics, we provide the solutions to your movement dilemma . "

Depending on whether you are happy or not with that, way I see it you have 3 choices.

Do it and ■■■■ it up.

Don’t do it and look for something else…maybe not the best idea in the present climate.

Tell them you will do it no problem if your job depends on it…but only if they verify it in writing.

If they have the courage of their convictions and have no problems with actually forcing drivers to work extra hours over the already adequate (some may say ridiculous) existing hours, then they will…but I doubt it, because we both know if things do go ■■■■ up during your 10th and 11th hour, you will sure as hell be on your jack…

It’s bloody difficult when ultimatums are given, I know, but there is only you who can decide which way to deal with it.

Who is actually driving for 11 hours a day under these relaxed rules? I’m willing to bet absolutely no-one here, so all this frothing is pointless. The relaxed rules only really affect those doing very long distance work and it will be a very small number (if any) who ‘need’ more than the 10 hours driving limit that’s available in the normal rules.

I did ask for it in writing which was politely declined and was directed to a nicely printed version of the new relaxed rules which as I pointed out that it must be agreed by both employer and employee that a reduced break be taken for which the reply was that’s only for the new rules but old rules it was employers discretion… I will ■■■■ it up until the industry gets back on a even footing and probably look elsewhere.

Yeh, but directing you to read the new hours and limits, is a lot different to them putting it in writing telling you that you WILL do this that or the other …innit.
Just see how it goes mate, and if they are pushing you to max out and minimum rests, maybe text them if you genuinely ARE tired on a shift, and see if they have the balls to text you back telling you to press on, which you will have a record of.
They sound a right bunch of #### s , but there’s not much else you can do in the present climate unfortunately…and they know that.
