This is my first posting in the interactive section, after joining this great site back in 2010, having only needed to soak up some very useful tips and information, but now find myself in the job market and need some help if poss guys
Would anyone know of any work going in the South wales/south west area for a class 1, clean licence driver?
Based in Chepstow area of South wales and will travel to tramp Got 6 years under my belt(i know… is that all)of varied work, and at the mo it seems like a up hill battle to find the right job!!!

Zenith near Asda Chepstow they’re quite big I think.
Tesco at Avonmouth possible start after a stint on the agency.
what about wilkos or tesco at magor only about 12 mile from chepstow or stobbies at newport i know they have trampers or at least used to there based at hasbrow in newport
Downtons have a lot of work on in Avonmouth.
You could try Autologic in portbury on the car transporters they have been taking on the last few wks and they still want more.

tried Downtons too…nothing there. Used to work for them too back a bit…good job too. Left for stobarts and looking back it was easier with Downtons than Stobarts…although stobart pay better
Seen autologic ad…but can i live in a low cab all week is the only sticking point…like the space

Hicks (Newport) seemed a decent place to work when I did some stuff there!

Was looking at Hicks newport to contact them, was it hrly pay and what are the conditions like? It is nearer for me as well, would u know who to ask for regarding work.

Did a few shifts there on agency over a year ago, not too sure about who to ask for and the other details sorry, though the drivers there seemed happy enough. Also, on the same estate is Owens!

I worked for Owens for about 18 months. Reasonable kit, but poor money; paid by the day, no overtime and you only get £40 per day if you’re on booked holiday. Apparently they laid 50 drivers off just before Christmas, if the bloke who rang our firm up for a job is to be believed. Usually the lay-offs occur after the holidays.
In fairness there are a lot of drivers on their books who’ve been there for years, so it can’t be all bad.

Know a few guys who have worked for hicks not one has a bad word to say about them,in fact I would go as far to say they are one of the best in south east Wales.

Don’t be too choosy things are going to get worse not better.
Transporters is not for everyone, not everyone can do it well despite what they think and the jobs are not like they were under Walon UK.
Not prying here and this is meant in a friendly way, but unless your relationship is rock solid this job will break it, most of the blokes staying are those who’ve mortgaged themselves to the hilt when the job was good under Walon and are now stuck.
If you can graft and your face fits you can still knock up £35 to £45k though, time wasters won’t.
