looks like one of them nuclear flasks,if anybody has ever seen that train hitting a nuclear flask at over a hundred miles per hour,this one looks like a bigger version of that,or as dogthehunter says an electrical transformer
Going north probably up to Liverpool docks or barrow …usually the transformers are for bringing the electricity in from offshore wind farms

No, as said above its just ALE delivering another transformer , they have been doing them for years
hope he did his daily checks first ,all those wheel nuts !!! How long do you reckon they would take to torque ? That would be half your shift gone

Sorry but not right, that’s a Unipower and Faun with a Girder set trailer doing a Transformer move - bridges are now done by SPMT (Self propelled modular trailers),
As to why its Police escorted- it will be on a type of movement order called special order ( its been a while but a VS order?) which means it (on paper at least ) has to be approved by the Secretary of State for Transport and falls outside the legislation that allows private escorts only
