In the spirit of all the “care to explain threads”
Happened yesterday @ 7:24pm on the B3178 towards Exmouth, suffice to say the Ford Ka driver and its 3 passengers were lucky my reactions were so fast! I was driving a fully laden Mercedes Sprinter. ~3t in weight.

I can explain it - looking but not seeing probably because they only looked when at the side of the 4x4 so had no clear view
Were you prepared for it to emerge (ready to take avoiding action by making sure the oncoming lane was free) as you saw it disappear from view behind the 4x4 or did you assume it would not come out ■■
I didn’t see it at all, consider that the time between the junction being visible and the KA being visible behind the 4x4 is barely a second, and then it emerging without stopping (despite a give way sign being there).
I had anticipated the 4x4 pulling out as it started to creep out just as it came into view, so had slowed down from ~50 to 40 already (road is a 60 limit), but the ford ka just drove right out in front of me without even looking. Was a young lad driving, under 20 I reckon, with 3 passengers, 2 girls in the back.

Good swift and efficient avoidance there Madmossy, take a well earned slap on the back.

Wasn’t “jonnytruckfest” driving the KA was it thinking hes gods gift to driving with less than a month of car driving experience

Do you find that a worry
especially as the camera did and even with my problem of seeing depth on a 2D screen so did I the first time I clicked on the post
I take it I am the only one who can’t see a video an can only see a picture. :-/
Ignore this. It’s ok. I’ve seen it now.
In the video you can see it clearly as its recorded at 0.5 frames a second, and then slowed down significantly from its source footage
In reality though it was much much faster and the whole event happened over just 2 seconds. Also consider that the entire length of that junction is ~30 meters, at 40mph that is covered in just over a second.
The 4x4 and Car on the right were clearly visible, I saw them and anticipated that someone might try emerge out, but the KA literally came out of no where. I did obviously see it in time though as I avoided a possible collision
It’s not a video, but an animated gif picture, your web browser should be able to play it fine, unless your using an ancient computer or mobile phone.
The scary thing is the level of driver training and examination that lets such stupid zb’s,with that level of sub human intelligence,on the road.So they pass them as fit to drive and then think that putting them into a Ford Ka instead of a BMW or a Jag will make everything ok.
It’s obvious that the stupid zb hasn’t learn’t anything from the encounter because whoever it is isn’t capable of learning anything or they’d have learn’t such basics of driving, like making sure that a road is clear before entering it from a give way, before passing the test, let alone after it.Unfortunately next time it might be a motorcyclist with something approaching from the opposite direction.

You have the video evidence and his number is clear, report him to the police, you have no excuse.
Post it on you tube and embarass him too
How many hazards were there at the junction, apart from the KA?
I take it you don’t ride a motorcycle? Or if so, you certainly didn’t have your biking head on…I guess you feel a lot safer and tend to be less aware of junctions in a Sprinter than on a motorbike though.
OP avoided a collision, what more do folk want?

I thought the same ,there does seem to be a level of unwarranted criticism towards a driver who was apparently paying enough attention to his driving to avoid a collision with another driver who was desperate to avoid being behind the van.Had that been 40t artic i doubt the KA driver would be around to to pull out of any more junctions

A little known fact is the IAM badge actually contains a small hidden bell end magnet sufficiently powerful to allow it to securely attach itself to the exterior of motor vehicles, often German executive saloons of a brand synonymous with tossers, depending on the occupants of the vehicle at the time.

When did I say I was gods gift to driving
That’s right I didn’t. Never acted like I was either so again where you get that from is beyond me. Also I wouldn’t be caught dead in a Ford KA so your wrong on all accounts
HTH
Cheers
