Any car drivers care to explain

Truckulent:
Never trust a KA driver - they are often young/dizzy/doddery (delete as applicable) and rarely do you see a KA more than a few months old without ‘battle scars!’

Coming down the A82 today in a 44 tonner, sitting happily at 40,I was overtaken by-well everything really. One of the overtakers was a wee blue KA. When he overtook he pulled in quickly and had to correct himself(he had a P plate on). Got to Crianlarich, turned right heading for Tarbet and just after the drovers there is the KA in the barrier with another car aswell.

It`s actually a 50 limit for you if you were in a 3T Sprinter.

Although the vans are limited to 56 anyway, and struggle to get that speed at the best of times

Your right, I shall remember that, always thought of a van as a slightly large car, shall be quick to wag my finger at those annoying land rovers doing 60+ on that road in future as they are certainly over 2t also.

Okay maybe there are some exceptions, the old style Ford KA being one of them :smiling_imp: If it drives anything like the newer style that I took for a test drive this week not a very good car indeed :smiling_imp: The new fiesta though that’s a whole new ball game  I maybe inexperienced, but I have had experience with different cars taking them for test drives etc :grimacing:

Not to mention the location is nowhere near where I live  and your quotes prove nothing, I’ll enjoy driving the car doesn’t mean I like the car though. And even drivers like me have exceptions as to what cars I wouldn’t drive. The older Ford KA being one of them and the Nissan Micra being the other one   I’ll stick to my fanny magnet mobile for now

Cheers

Err, whilst not the plus bit, Land Rovers are actually allowed to do 60 on that stretch. Unless pulling a trailer they are classed as cars and as such are subject to the same speed limits as cars.

Not trying to teach you to ■■■■ eggs or anything but when in your Sprinter do try to avoid falling foul of the speed limit on a D/C. Lots of van driver (the police ones included) seem to think it’s 70 there.

Edit to add, upon re reading what I’ve just written it occurred to me that in that case pulling a trailer behind a Landy wouldn’t make any difference to its speed limit.

OP, well done on the avoidance, not bothered about the driver, he deserved a Merc badge wedged in his side, but 3 passengers, so well done mate, nice 1.

I’ve got a lot of experience driving a lot of cars, and I must say that 1 of the most enjoyable I’ve ever drove was a courtesy Ford Ka back in 1998, it drove like a go-kart, loved it, amazing handbrake turns too, felt like Russ Swift.

Sounds to me like you’ve got a few issues jonny. Driving CAN be enjoyable, but for the most part, it’s a way of getting around.

In my driving history, I’ve owned well over 100 cars, including a Mazda RX/7, a Sierra XR4x4 2.9i, a Renault 21 Turbo modified, a Renault 19 16v chipped and decat and lowered, a few Audi’s including quattro’s, a few Saabs including a Turbo, a couple of Land Rovers - favourite being a Series III 88" and currently a BMW 530d estate (193bhp E39 model).
If I needed a car tomorrow due to not having 1, and was offered a Ford Ka, not only would I be grateful, I’m sure I’d enjoy driving it again for it’s simplicity and just fun value.

I remember a mate getting a Skoda Felicia last year, £200 banger to run around in, and we all had so much fun when we drove it, probably the slowest, sloppiest, nosiest, crapiest car any of us have drove for years, yet one of the most enjoyable.

Having had a look at the actual speed limits shown on the govs website “car” limits only apply to vehicles that have a mgw of under 2t laden which put a modern landy or range rover over at least that is how I would see it.

Truckulent:
If you’d adjusted your speed as you should have in those circumstances you would’ve been able to stop and wouldn’t have had to swerve!

the above statment is not fair about ka drivers because i no four class 1 drivers at our place that have them.

Maybe I do have issues then again it maybe because of my personal choice on car? As I said I drove the new Ford KA this week, and although it did drive like a go kart and was quite fun to drive I just didn’t like it, doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the drive though. And for the most part for me is both getting around but enjoying it, call me sad but any excuse to get in the driver seat makes me smile with joy, even the trip to morrisons to do the weekly shop. And I never go the same way twice, like my trip to bridlington a couple weeks ago. I took the m62 to get straight to Brid then came back through the yorkshire countryside, pocklington and selby taking the A19 coming back home.

The car I drive is simple and quite fun to drive considering it’s like a blue postman pat van, but I am grateful I have a car to drive. Many folk my age don’t get to drive from the day of passing their test, thankfully I did. And am using my license as much as I can because I earned my privilege to drive and it’s something that I thoroughly enjoy!

Cheers

Just because you’ve taken a few cars for a test drive doesn’t mean you have experience of them. Surely, to gain experience of a car, you need to spend a few days at least, driving the car in different situations, before you can honestly say you’ve got experience of driving that car. And before you criticise the Ford Ka, especially the older one, actually get some experience of it. I have a friend who uses his as a track toy, it may not be the quickest thing on track, but speed isn’t everything. And if you were to have one, and found it lacking, well, welcome to the world of modifying. Did you know the blown 1600 CVH a la RS Turbo fits under the bonnet! Not to mention a whole range of other lumps. And have a look on the net, you should be able to find some info on the RWD converted, Cosworth powered Ka. But I doubt someone with such a wealth of expereince of cars would be interested in that…

Fully agree mate, I would need a few days at least with the cars. But I meant on face experience of said test drives  But I’m sure I’ll find out as time goes on. Never said I had a wealth of experience, I test drive cars for fun not to review them. I just gave my opinion of one test drive.

A Land Rover is classed as a multi-purpose vehicle. Same speed limits as a car.

Any van larger than car-derived are subject to the lower limits as mentioned.
Few van drivers known that, just as they don’t they don’t seem to care about the 10 hours driving a day rule.

In the clip, having seen the Ka disappear out of sight and being unable to see if the driver was looking in my direction, I would have been on the brakes and horn expecting him to do what he did.
