As per the title, any other motorcyclists on Trucknet?
I will admit to being a potential organ donor who occasionally dresses up like a power-ranger to get my two-wheeled fix, my current steed being a 2003 954 Fireblade which I’ve owned for the last 6 years.
Looking at possibly changing it before the summer, but I’ve yet to find something that can match the combination of speed, comfort (by sportsbike standards) and reliability.
Hi,
I use a BMW K75 RT every day for going to work, I also have 2 Honda CX650 customs, use these at weekends and for rallies in Germany and Holland during the summer.
I don’t own a car so use a bike for every day transport, runs out at the weekend and touring holidays. Currently riding a 700 Deauville after part ex our XJR 1300 which was a bit expensive to run, it also had a detrimental effect on my driving licence. So after nearly seven years and 60,000 miles it had to go.Put my sensible head on and bought the Deau. After eighteen months I really like it, comfortable, good weather protection, cheap to run and it handles well. Just lacks power, but I’ve got used to that.
Over the years we’ve toured most of the UK, two tours of france, one of France, Italy and Switzerland and a trip to Paris. this on a variety of bikes including, the Deau, XJR, St 1300, VFR, XJ 900f and CX.s

My dad had a CX 650 Turbo…Til’ some scrote half-inched it!
I got my first bike when I was sixteen (late I know) and pretty much owned, sold, rode, raced and crashed them in the UK and abroad ever since.
I still don’t think I qualify as a proper biker… Proper bikers in my mind look like OGRI and have their lifestyles descibed by Hunter S Thompson. The rest of us are either racers or riders and there ain’t no shame in that.
I still own and race (very occasionally) a Husqvarna WR250.
K4 Gixxer thou, 600 Suzuki GSXF, Honda CH125 spacy (x2), 1950(ish) New Hudson 98cc autocycle and an full spec Ex WSB ZXR750RR (K). Got a feeling I’ve forgot something… Oh, yes. Enough TZ stuff to build a couple up. One day…
Glad to see I’m not the only one with a foot in both camps.
My fireblade is now on 36000 miles, so despite running well she’s getting very long in the tooth by sportsbike standards. Not sure what to replace her with, I quite fancy the new Aprilia RSV4 but its not anywhere near as comfy as the Honda. I also like the new BMW S1000RR, but it’s got the same problems as the Aprilia and to be honest a bike of that performance would be wasted on me.
In an ideal world I’d like another Fireblade RR-3, but good low-mileage examples are thin on the ground these days. If any of you happen to hear of a late model 954 RR-3, with low mileage and full history I’d be very grateful if you could pass the details on to me. Not fussed about colour or price for the right bike.
Wheel Nut:
I have just been sent a brochure for the 2012 Fireblade, beautiful although I prefer V2 engines.
I’m a V-twin fan myself and I bought a Honda SP-2 before I got the Fireblade, but unfortunately I got a bit enthusiastic only a few weeks into my ownership and it finished up going end-over-end down the road, with me following in close formation on my arse.
I’ve been toying with the idea of an older Aprilia RSV with the V-twin engine, but I’m not sure how durable it would prove to be. A mate of mine is Ducati through and through, but I just can’t take to them.

My brother had 3 Ducatis and a couple of RSV Aprilia. He had just bought a MV Agusta F4 and then died
I have had a wide variety of bikes from a BSA C15 when I was 16 in 1962, through to a Laverda Jota back in the late 70’s. This had to go when I developed a slipped disc in my back. It was replaced by a more comfortable Moto Guzzi California T3 850 which was itself replaced by a T140 Bonneville when the paint started falling off the frame (top coat sprayed straight onto bare metal tubes with no base or undercoat!). The Bonny was sold to pay for central heating (choke). Then came a series of puddle-jumpers to ride to work on, now retired and joined the “Hells Pensioners” with a Honda Pantheon super scooter, as problems with my knees won’t let me ride a proper bike any more. Surprisingly the Pantheon is a very good machine and still manages to put a grin on my face when I ride it.
So far owned…
