■■■■■■ would have had a field day if they had come across this! No wonder he decided to stay in the cab.
OK its the Daily Mail, so you expect the report to be a load of sensasionalist bollox, but according to the article they considered using the helicopter to free the lorry (PCSO source ), that must be some serious chopper down in Wilts.
Maybe a chopper from the MOD base?
If it happens so often why not put a sign up at the lane entrance “No HGV access to MOD base” and follow the lorry route.
Wow great thought , a tanker full of fuel lifted by a chinnook near houses, what could go wrong

especially as it took them 2 days to work out that they would have to pump the fuel off to make it lighter
Looks like his reverse gear was damaged…

It is now common practice to equip vehicles with SAT NAV systems and then to send drivers into areas where they have NO local knowledge. This is an example of the result of this practice.
Where do we even begin with this little gem of a comment?!?! I’m surprised he didn’t mention putting freight on to railways or narrow boats etc.
Aren’t tanker drivers “not” supposed to leave the lorry?

If that’s the case then that’s good that the lorry driver wanted to sleep in his lorry and not leave it. Everyone makes mistakes…
Just out of curiosity, something ive always wondered. How DO they get a stuck hgv from a situation like this?
Unplanned night out but he was prepared.
Well sort of,■■■■ shopping at the Co op,well expensive imo.

What I don’t get is the fact they don’t mention that its stuck in mud, just that it’s got wedged inbetween the edges because it rolled back… Could it not pull forwards then reverse back out the way it came? I know reversing it all the way back would be difficult but if it drove in there fowards surely it’ll go out backwards with a bit of work?

Drag it out (winch from distance if needed) and worry about damage later ?
Looks like the patch of grit that was put down did"nt do much good.

Grit don’t do squat it’s like putting ball bearings down it needed salt or sawdust to dry out the surface.

If it got in it will get out
Drop the trailer and get the unit out the way for starters, then get a tractor coupled up drag it out and worry about the damage later.
