Another Low paid Class 1 Vacancy

jonnytruckfest:
If you don’t like how much they’re paying, look for another job and stop complaining for [zb] sake. What’s [zb] to you maybe good to someone else. I’m on £4.50 an hour (£6.28 after 7pm - 9pm) working in a warehouse 48+ hours a week , I’m due a rise next month of 25p and another 50p in another 3 months time. But I don’t complain because what I earn at the end of the month is more important to how much I earn per hour.

I wouldn’t turn my nose up at near on £7 an hour but it also depends on the hours you do, there’s no use being on £10 an hour if you’re only working a 20-30 hours a week compared to 40 - 60 hours a week on £7 an hour. That’s before overtime & night out money. Like I said what doesn’t suit you may suit someone else, if you don’t like it. Move on and stop complaining. That’s my 2 bob anyway

Cheers

 thing is Jonny it gives these ■■■■■ something to moan about on a regular basis , its like PMT, it appears once a month, they moan for a week, mention of cleaners , shelf stackers , mcdonalds etc etc then after a week its forgotten . But sure to return when someone with more then the normal amount of time on their hands gets fed up looking at ■■■■ and goes on the job centre website.

Who gives a flying ■■■■ what someone else earns.

I think that any person deserves something better than a warehouse, and therefore you need to gain proper qualifications, and by proper i dont mean an SIA badge or a class 1 licence.

at the moment qualifications mean next to nothing i have a degree, hnd and gcse’s yet still drive a truck at the moment as most jobs are so poorly paid or working shifts, weekends and most warehouse bods earn not far less than a driver in any case :open_mouth:

so fair play to the lad if he enjoys it, can live on the wages thats more important than doing a ‘proper job’ to me! your at work a long time and at least in a warehouse you have some progression if you show willing.

A lot of the criticism on this thread is aimed at employers who over recent years have side stepped minimum wage legislation by renaming these jobs as “modern apprenticeships” .

Current national minimum wage rates
There are currently three aged based national minimum wage rates and an apprentice rate, which are usually updated in October each year. The rates that apply from 1 October 2011 are as follows:
for workers aged 21 years or more: £6.08 per hour
for workers aged 18 to 20 inclusive: £4.98 per hour
for workers aged under 18 (but above compulsory school age): £3.68 per hour
for apprentices aged under 19: £2.60 per hour
for apprentices aged 19 and over, but in the first year of their apprenticeship: £2.60 per hour

For a genuine apprenticeship low wages were accepted because in return you were taught a useful and valuable trade that would give you a reasonable standard of living when qualified with the possibility of earning really good money for a working class person. Typically that would take 3-5 years and you needed that time to get to a reasonable level of skill within your chosen trade. With most of these modern apprenticeships a youngster can be up to speed in a relatively short time as the jobs are not that demanding. I am not going to denigrate any job that a person does but I do believe in people being treated fairly and these modern apprenticeships by and large exploit the young people they employ financially.

Simple warehouse apprenticeship malarky. Picking and packing clothes on the tesco contract.
The jobs I’ve had thus far are:
Picking
Packing
Loading(Cardboard or Clothes to go out)/Unloading Trailers (Clothes to be put away on shelves ready to be picked etc…)
Putaways
Underfives
Bulk Picks
Admin work
Goods In
Click & Collect
Supervising of conveyor belt.
General Housekeeping

My main jobs are usually picking, underfives, putaways, loading of the cardboard trailer, click and collect and general housekeeping. Averaging about 650+ picks a day but varies upon the work load  A jobs a job, and they know I’m wanting to get my lgv license so they said once the apprenticeship is up and i’m working full time they’ll look into putting me through my tests etc  So I can’t be doing all bad :sunglasses:

That sounds pathetic mate, I would recomend you to go an study instead of writing your life off and working in a warehouse. Or at least go to college and get an NVQ, it will still be much better than a warehouse.

It may sound ‘pathetic’ to you, but it pays me money. I’m happy with what I’m earning end of discussion. As animal has so rightly pointed out, it’s to make ends meat to put me through my car test and it’s also enabling me to make a few changes to my room, as living with my parents it’s easier for me to do up my room than moving out, call me whatever but it works for me…but now I can afford to have my room how I choose and have it the way I want. And still have plenty of money left over to take my car test AND take my hgv training too…I went to college, I left part way through doing my a-levels because of many reasons. One of them purely being sick and tired of scrimping and scraping all the time, not to mention having countless arguments with an ex girlfriend who sent me do lally more than once…And I like working with a warehouse? :unamused: What’s the big deal what I do? I don’t beat around the bush when I say the company I work for is a good one, in fact I’d recommend them to anyone if they ever needed a job. And when it comes for my review next month I am going to be asking about the full time positions that is available on the other shift to see if I can get onto that, as even the bloke whose putting me through the apprenticeship knows I’ve got the least amount to do because I’m the most qualified person out of the 3 apprentices they have taken on so it’s obvious why I’m there and it isn’t for the qualifications…in fact they know why I’m there :grimacing: As for the reasons I’ve already mentioned above (Car & Hgv training  :grimacing: ) And they actually said they would help anyway they could with the hgv training side of things so, be it what you will. It works for me  .

To point out too, the wages can’t be that bad considering that one of the apprentices does have a kid to provide and bills to pay, and can still afford to take time off work. So it can’t be all bad now can it?

Personally I couldn’t give a ■■■■ what people think of the ‘apprenticeship’ I’m doing, to me it’s a job. Nothing else, because if they aren’t moaning about one thing on here it’s another. I clock out. Like SRB said it’s like PMT it comes around once a month for a week then it goes until it crops up again. Everything I have I’ve worked for, and that’s how I like it to be and that’s how it shall remain for the forseeable. To be honest my mates first laughed at me when they found out what I did to earn money…But when it came to going out they soon changed there tune when they had ■■■■ all to go out with and I had plenty  So people can go ahead and think what they wish. I’m happy and that all that matters, more than I could say for a lot of the miserable gits on this forum

Courtesy of other taxpayers topping up his wages maybe…

Haven’t a clue, It’s not my place to say or ask. I just go by what I’ve seen and heard. And if he is getting extra credit off of other tax payers than I may aswell be giving part of my wage to him then, considering I am one of those tax payers.

The point is Jonny if he qualifies for government money then you can hardly say the wages are decent, you’ll learn one day when that little rubber splits… :unamused:
