Who is to blame this time?
Not enough factual information to make any attempt to apportion blame. All I see at the moment are people who have had their lives shattered.
You tell us who’s to blame.
Don’t want to see harm come to anyone but how about bikes keeping off busy A roads & dual carriageways.
Still blows my mind seeing cyclists on the bellshill bypass! It may be legal for them to use duals but its certainly not safe!
Im on this stretch of road regular and ive never once encountered a cyclist on the actual carriageway, infact im 90ish% sure there is a cycle lane running just alongside the southbound carriageway that runs from perth to dundee.
Well said Wiretwister and how very true but a lot of these unfortunate accidents could be avoided.
NeilG says how about keeping bikes off busy A roads and dual c’s.
Yes it would be great if there were a lot more cycle paths but there are not.Might be good if all drivers would take more care when it comes to vulnerable road users.Cyclists have the same rights as anyone else to use the roads and cause far less polution.
Personally I would not ride my bike on a busy DC but not because I am not competent but because I have almost been wiped out on A roads by drivers not giving me enough room.
I think the official cycle route is along the old road via the village of Errol, certianly a safer more scenic route The local gossip is that there was lots of spray and general poor conditions. Absolute lunacy to cycle that road in perfect weather, let alone in poor weather.
Hard not to bash the cycle brigade just now considering the amount that go about with no or little lights and those silly coloured vest that are covered in sponsors, and non reflective strips.
I pass a guy on a regular basis on one of those lie back bikes with 2 led lights front and back, no hi viz or reflective clothing, I do a regular run so I know he is there somewhere but it’s still hard to see him until you are on him, so to speak!
After the M74 opened between Happendon and Abington they made part of one lane on the old road a cycle path now I know it’s not a busy road but I have yet to see a cyclist on the path but see plenty on the road these cyclist’s groups shout for paths and then dont use them.Eddie.
Very strange is it not? A truck driver is killed or dies and there are numerous posts…RIP …Sincere condolences…etc but a cyclist is killed who may have been a truck driver for a living and all most can do is try to blame the cyclist who probably was not at fault.
It really says a lot about some people on this forum.
All very sad and tragic.

Theres a cycle path runs alongside the A4174 (Bristol) but the muppets constantly wobble along the DC waiting to be wiped out.
Same rights as anyone else■■? You mean because they pay road tax and insurance like every other road user? :-/
As for pollution, global warming is a myth anyway.

Have you ever wondered why they do not use the cycle paths? Have you cycled on any of them? Do you think they want to ride on the road and be wiped out?
Global warming is a myth? Get a life you narrow minded bigot.

Maybe the truck driver was in the wrong maybe not but if you want to make it safer for cyclists you aren’t going to do it by creating less segregation of road traffic ( especially fast running dual carriageway traffic ) instead of more and there’s very few places where cyclists haven’t got a more suitable alternative to riding cycles on fast dual carriageways often even riding cycles in lane 1 of 70 mph dual carriageways when there is a hard shoulder available, let alone using one of the numerous safer alternative routes,as on the A3.
As for global warming believers no surprise that just like any other bunch of religeous extremists they throw accusations of narrow minded bigotry at anyone who dares to disagree with their bonkers taliban like religious ideas. But it seems a bit hypocritical for anyone who believes in such bs to then have any interest in motor transport or cycling not forgetting that walking won’t produce as much CO2 as the effort required to create the extra power and speed involved in riding a bicycle or choosing to run instead.
And you’re not an extremist at all now are you Carry old bean.

Why is he a bigot just because he disagrees with your view? you sound like those who are typically of the left if anyone disagrees with you you resort to name calling hardly the way to put your point across

No.It’s always those with all the usual pc agendas, such as believing in the bs global warming theory for example, who brand anyone who dares to disagree with them as ‘bigots’.

That’s a very narrow definition of extremist. A category I feel you fall into. Its also funny seeing one of the forums most judgemental members moaning about people being judgemental.
I always loved going out for a bike ride, have cycled over the Severn bridge from bristol into Wales with mates, lot of years ago,can you still do it old Severn bridge.
So even though I find they can be a pain in the neck at times,I can see the other side of the coin, can be a really enjoyable hobby.

It does seem a bit strange why he chose to introduce the bs pollution and global warming issue into a topic concerning what was supposed to be all about a road safety one.
