Carryfast . its your responsibility to do this to the best of your abilities at all times
Goes with the job , as you are by far the most dangerous person on the road by virtue of driving a lorry
That’s the key phrase you used right there ‘the best of YOUR abilities’. So if someone is less able than another, that makes it slightly more acceptable to hit someone on a bike does it? Because I’m pretty certain that everyone has different limits to THEIR abilities.
It’s nothing to do with ‘ability’ being that the standard required is of a set level IE you drive a truck on its mirrors.‘However’ that standard was never intended to deal with, nor can it possibly deal with,a reversal of the rule which says don’t attempt to pass a turning/potentially turning vehicle.

Ya soz . didnt really mean ‘best of your abilities’ . the sun was on my head .
I meant professionally , not distracted by anything , just concentrating on the job in hand of not letting anyone down yr side unseen .
Its your/ our responsibility
On a different note lets imagine the lunatics take over the mad house …
And cyclists are licenced , taxed , insured and wearing helmets with big number plates on them …
Would that absolve you from checking your mirrors and acting responsibly ■■
No of course not .
Its the lorry drivers responsibility to keep the vunerable safe .
If you dont like / cant accept this… Get a warehouse job

I did that and someone in a closed cab reach truck crushed my right malleolus and tibia
Some Tipper drivers in London thrash about like they carrying explosives that might detonate any second.
All you have to do is every week day morning 7am stand at roundabout in docklands near a13 and watch when tippers get released from their yard, like a pack of wild dogs trying to be first around the roundabout, I see it ever morning that I’m down there…

Great idea just go on thinking that the truck driver is guaranteed to see the undertaking cyclist during the left hand turn.

There is an argument, that the most dangerous person on the road , are those that are not prepared to take responsibility for their own actions .
Please enlighten me , as I struggle to grasp this issue which appears to afflict some who prefer to use bikes , that being the complete & utter loss of one of the fundamental basics of human nature, that of self preservation .
The train of thought that there in front of me , is a large heavy vehicle , that is not indicating , but there is a chance he will turn anyway , has known issues with blind spots , has been involved in unfortunate incidents with my current mode of transport, I had best stay well clear , & keep myself safe & in one piece is sadly lacking & all too common
No the thought is , let’s creep up the inside , it’s the drivers duty to look for & see & take care of my wellbeing , then suddenly find themselves between a rock & a hard place
There is a phrase , " look after No.1 , because sure as hell , there ain’t no other son of an unmarried Mother looking after you " , maybe worth a few minutes contemplation.
Everybody driver or cyclist has a duty of care to themselves and others around them so a few fines need dishing out for the idiots that think they are indestructible .
Is it that time again already, this topic comes around every few weeks or so with the same old blame game being regurgitated time & again.
I think you could wrap a cyclist or pedestrian in bubble wrap, have trucks made out of foam rubber, and humans would still find a way to get themselves killed, it’s just in their nature.
Michael Douglas:
Eh up snowman, the next time you see boredwivdrivin in your blindspot, I think you should take it upon yourself to give him the old moose ride. In fact, I think this is what HGV drivers should do to all cyclists when they pass them out on the road.
I reckon “boredwivdrivin” is actually a failed agency driver with an axe to grind. Unable to grasp the fact that despite spending his redundancy on one of those “pass your lgv test with us and we l’ll get you earning £40k per year” companies, he hasn’t had one day of work and even Driver Hire wont give him £7.50 /hour working for Bensons For Beds. His frustration at not limping into a blue chip company depot, Aldi bag for life in hand, (no parrot handsfree yet he’s still using a sellotaped together Nokia 3210) means he’s taking out his frustration on the rest of us.
Either that or they now fit Ipads to the Sunshine Coach.
boredwivdrivin:
Look at it this way casual obs .
They ( cyclists) are amateurs comprising women , children , commuters , fitness freaks , old people and of course some idiots
Truck drivers are professionals ( even incl 8 legger drivers)
Therefore they have no responsibility to you ,
But u the professional have a responsibilty to them
Simple .
Don’t they have resonsibility for themselves though? If I’m walking along the street I don’t just walk in front of traffic because I’m a pedestrian and have no responsibility to them, I look out for myself and stay away from things that might kill me

Only new law needed is the most vulnerable road users have the right of way.
Works on holland .
Hit a cyclist , its yr fault . no questions
Shifts the mind set of drivers in their invincible tanks and the accident rate falls
Except of course the trams which can wallop anything in their path
Not you again. Cambridge. Today. 11AM. Indicating left at red traffic lights. They turn green (surprise). Bold as brass and in a realm of his own, a youth slowly cycles up the full length of my n/s, then bravenly swings back in front of my unit. Poodles off blissfully unaware of the magnitude of his own stupidity. and lo! sporting white earphones firmly stuck into either side of his thick head. Being an ever-vigilant “professional”, I saw the ■■■■■■■■ from the get-go (arent i the hero?) Who would you say is the inattentive, dangerous moron in need of training - ME if ive got the gist of your blinkered mentality.

Careful. Asking BVD a direct question he doesnt like or doesnt have the answer too will result in you being in his ignore corner so he can carry on posting his rubbish and hide behind his “stance” to avoid answering.
He might also tell you that you have tunnel vision views in a case of breath taking hypocrisy but I seem to be the only one lucky enough to fall into that category so far
Let’s be honest, a disproportionately high number of Tipper truck drivers drive like idiots. This is because a) a lot are young and basically boy racers b) the older ones are invariably thick as sh/t who would otherwise be litter pickers.
And it seems most fatal accidents occur with 8 leggers
They dont even have the lazy excuse of blind spots as they are a rigid !!
If their mirrors are set correctly they can look down both sides all the time regardless of turning left right or bunny hopping

Older ones do/did assuming they don’t have the idiot mirror over the windscreen and the extra one on the nearside.
Even with all the correct mirrors, there is still a pretty poor area of visibilty around axle two, and before you say the cabs should be lower down, there’s a reason why tippers are set high up (an expert like you should be able to work it out).
