If you RhythmNazi begin to know your place, then I shall reframe engaging in a spelling contest with you.
ITS A LORRY DRIVERS FORUM but other folks may use it, but no one ever feels the need to pick other posters spelling. As that puts other people off posting, and that is not how a forum works.
Alright … as I generally agree with your posts on the subject of cycling, I’ll refrain from commenting on your spelling. I disagree with your premise that it’s not important just because it’s a drivers’ forum, though …

You could also join me on a local cookery forum as well if you want? Trust me spelling is low on the agenda on that forum as well maybe it’s just me who’s not that bothered about spelling.
If you were that bright then you could fill in the blanks like I do perhaps

If it was just you, I wouldn’t care at all. The reason it’s an issue is twofold: one, that it seems to be a general decline in standards of written English, and two, that very few people seem to care about it or think it matters. I do take your point, believe it or not, but I can’t help finding it depressing that so many people think a good standard of written English is unimportant.

Iam totally in agreement with you.
Why you are venting this frustration on a lorry drivers forum beats me though?
You play in a band don’t you?
Maybe play to the audience/forum
Maybe think of whos actually reading this!

Because it’s as important here as anywhere else, that’s why. That’s my point.
I’m not in a band any more, by the way: I left because it was taking up too much of my time. But you’ll be pleased to hear I was just as much of a pedantic grammar ■■■■ (rhymes with “hat”) on the guitarists’ forum I was a member of.

If I was on a bicycle I would make sure I was never anywhere near the inside of a HGV anwhere near a junction. It is basic survival skills, same as motorcycling, always assume a vehicle in your proximity is going to do something that may hurt you and make sure you you have a contingency plan in case it does.
So what do you do when you get to the junction first, only to have an HGV stop inches from your shoulder? I only ask as I’ve never had one, or any motor vehicle for that matter, stay behind me.

Control your road space, as you would in a car. I used to stick to the middle of whichever lane I needed at junctions. Granted, it feels “wrong” at first, but I found I got a lot more respect from most other road users.

Stay still until it pulls away, then if does turn left it won’t squash you, basic survival skills really.

I wouldn’t position my juggernaught next to a stationary cyclist in the first place

If that lorry had a intention of turning left then why would he pull alongside an other road user. Why can’t that said truck take it’s turn to navigate said junction?

You’re conveniently assuming that the ‘other’ road user was already ahead of the truck and that the truck then pulled alongside before/as it approached the junction to turn.As opposed to the ‘other road user’ undertaking the truck from behind on the approach and/or during the turn.

CF I see you still have trouble reading posts before taking to the keyboard. Read my post, it plainly asks what are you supposed to do if the cyclist is there first, there’s no assumption about it.

I was taking the words ‘that lorry’ at face value in meaning the example ‘in this’ case assuming it’s yet another left turning truck v cyclist on the nearside collision. It’s really difficult to believe that any driver who’s shown a reasonable ability to actually drive would overtake a cyclist in whatever way on the approach to a left turn. However assuming that you’re right concerning the possibility of such a scenario actually happening the fact is you’d then be dealing with a driver who really doesn’t have the ability to drive a car safely let alone alone a truck.
However regardless of that argument the idea of waiting and letting that type of ‘potential’ idiot go first just in case is good basic survival advice.Just as I said in the case of looking and waiting if needed,to cross a side road as a pedestrian, being that there are ‘some’ idiots out there who don’t know,or care about, the rule of giving way to pedestrians crossing a road that they’re turning into in the same way as if it’s a proper pedestrian crossing.
The plain fact is it does happen, and regularly. I have it done to me at least a couple of time a week. I don’t know wether the driver sees me & doesn’t care or just doesn’t see me full stop. I do know the the majority of drivers, when asked how come they hit the cyclist, always come out with “sorry mate I didn’t see you”. There is a whole website dedicated to it, have a look at SMIDSY.COM. Or you could stroll down to a junction & watch it live.

If it’s really a case of the overtake/go alongside and turn left scenario that’s really not likely to be a case of didn’t see the cyclist because they had to see the cyclist to overtake/go alongside without running over the cyclist in the first place. What you’re describing would be a basic driving ability issue which would apply regardless of what such a driver happened to be driving at the time.As I’ve said I’ve personally never seen such a scenario take place and find it very difficult to believe.
However having said that,as I’ve also said, that issue of having to stop, look, and sometimes wait, when crossing side roads as a pedestrian, because of zb driving standards in the case of vehicles of all types entering side roads,is a reality. In which case the answer is yes there ‘might’,potentially,be some idiots out there who shouldn’t have a driving licence. In which case waiting and letting them go ‘just in case’ is basic survival skills.
