I’ve got a 1500w inverter, wired via heavy duty cables to the anderson connection. works chargers etc, but when i plug my microwave (output 700 input 1100w) in, it doesn’t even turn the turntable a full revoluton before cutting out and the faulf light coming on the inverter. have been told it is because its a soft start(?) inverter. I’m clueless about all this stuff, i was happy with my gas cooker till i got my knuckles rapped!
help me please, i miss my porridge
Because your inverter as a peek performance of 1500 watt, not a continuous performance of 1500 watt.
Hence the reason your microwave start and cut out in a few seconds.
Also most cheaper inverters are modified sinus wave, give “dirty electricity” and use approx 40% more power than a proper inverter.
You are better of to use 24 volt equipment what will be much kinder to your batteries or have a small genie with you.
Everybody who used a inverter for even a small amount of time know how warm they can get= waste energy
By the time you buy a decent inverter then a microwave you may as well just buy a 24v microwave

Circa £400 though
Rather eat out
Any ideas where I can buy one or a guide on how to make one? gotta have a fuse as well.
you can but the anderson plugs on ebay
in all the DAF’s i have had, i have cut off the crappy plug for the microwave in the centre cupboard and replaced them with 50 amp anderson plugs, then fitted others on the microwave, power inverter, and other stuff, just swap the plugs over as and when required
Do DAFs have wiring for a microwave as standard?
I want something like this
ebay.co.uk/itm/Torberry-Ande … 3a6b4df711
But with a longer cable to reach from the battery box to the top lockers in a Volvo, also has to have a fuse.

the XF Superspace cab has wiring for the microwave as standard, it is tucked inside the left hand edge of the centre cupboard, it has a bakelite plug with large spade connectors fitted in it

Ah ok, thanks, I will have a look for that this week, I have an XF Superspace (05 reg), is this supply 12 or 24v? I have seen 24v 1000w inverters on ebay for less than £30, presume this would be ok to run a 240v microwave?
This sort of thing. ebay.co.uk/itm/1000W-Boat-Ca … 695wt_1110
it is tucked inside the left hand edge, it is 24v rated at 40 amp
check to see if the fuses are in the fusebox, as sometimes, they go missing, they are the two orange ones at the top, one is the fuse, the other is a spare

Copycat
I am getting a 600w microwave but am going to use a 1500w inverter, I have an anderson socket from the battery but need the cable to go from that socket to the cupboard in my cab, Will save me a few £££ in gas canisters.
Bubsy, if you have already got an anderson plug on the truck, you will need to check to see what rating it is, and get one the same, they are different sizes for different power ratings
oh, and Bubsy, i thought you would have gone for a 1-6 00 inverter

That was my first port of call but obviously nobody caters for people like me.

Thanks, yes, I have seen them. I will see if the wiring is all there this week.
I have had a look at 1500w inverters, they seem a lot more expensive though. I presume a 1000w inverter would be enough to power a microwave oven? (I have a spare one at home, I believe it is rated at 850w)

If that is an 850 watt microwave it will require more than 1000w to power it. The 700w microwave in my kitchen draws 1200 watts.
Ah ok, I’m a bit puzzled though, what does the 700w refer to if not the current draw?

A 1000w might do it, I googled 600w microwave and inverter and saw a post about using a 1500w inverter.
