oh, and Bubsy, i thought you would have gone for a 1-6 00 inverter

That was my first port of call but obviously nobody caters for people like me.

whooooosh!!!

Sorry bit slow today, City are [zb]

it is tucked inside the left hand edge, it is 24v rated at 40 amp

check to see if the fuses are in the fusebox, as sometimes, they go missing, they are the two orange ones at the top, one is the fuse, the other is a spare

Thanks, yes, I have seen them. I will see if the wiring is all there this week.

I have had a look at 1500w inverters, they seem a lot more expensive though. I presume a 1000w inverter would be enough to power a microwave oven? (I have a spare one at home, I believe it is rated at 850w)

Depends on the microwave…

The input power required is a lot more than the stated power of the microwave, and the cheaper they are the more power they consume. And it doesn’t matter what setting you have it on it still consumes the same

I also think those cheapo inverters, modified sine wave ? are not up to the job, but stand to be corrected.

Ah ok, I’m a bit puzzled though, what does the 700w refer to if not the current draw?

Output power, cooking power if you like. There will be a label on the back or base of the oven that will tell you its input and output power.

Would that power a normal household toaster then.

Ta, yes, I just checked that and it says input 1200w, output 800w. Would a 1500w inverter do the job?

It should do but I have no experience of running a microwave from an inverter, I only ever had the 24v ones, so wouldn’t like to say for sure.

Hi Buzby , at the moment i run a 1500w inverter.

This is the second one i have had (first went fizzle pop after 5 years) :open_mouth: .

Most posts say about runnung cables to the battery , but mine is conected to where the main power leads come into the truck from the battery ( as per the M.A.N sparky,s directions ).

I have used heavy cables ( a set of heavy duty jump leads) , eyelets crinped on one end.
The other end has an anderson plug on it and the other side of the anderson plug is connected to the original inverter leads.
Would have to look to see what size of fuse is on it ( either 45 amp or 75 amp).
The cables are run inside under the carpet and the inverter is mounted behind the passanger seat.

The anderson leads mean , should i want to take the inverter out , i just unplug it :open_mouth:  .
My microwave lives on the top bunk (when folded up it cannot escape ).

When i use it i just conect a short 240v extension cable to the inverter and crank it up :sunglasses: .
I also use a 700w travel kettle as a normal one will pull megga watts.
Some of the other lads have them in Volvos and have the inverter mounted under the passanger seat and wired the same as mine.

Easier to connect an extension lead than to run heavy cables to the top lockers

Hope this helps a bit (can ask exactly where the cables are connected if you want ?).

you can but the anderson plugs on ebay

in all the DAF’s i have had, i have cut off the crappy plug for the microwave in the centre cupboard and replaced them with 50 amp anderson plugs, then fitted others on the microwave, power inverter, and other stuff, just swap the plugs over as and when required

ebay.co.uk/itm/ANDERSON-PLUG … 922wt_1185

Would you still need an inverter

depends on what you want to run from it, if it is a 24v microwave, no, but if it was a 240v microwave, yes, as the wiring in the DAF centre cupboard is 24v rated at 40amp

i have a 24v microwave and a power inverter, both with anderson plugs on them and another plug on the main wiring, if i want the microwave, i unplug the inverter, this way, i don’t use too much power from the batteries at any one time
