And so the Olympics begin to take effect

Wheel Nut:
I am with you. Those Limpic villages will make great ■■■■■ houses and crack dens :stuck_out_tongue:

Never thought of that.
Change of heart, bring it on…

We need to do our cultural education a little better apparently flying the wrong Korean flag ■■■■■■ a complete football team off.

The bombing starts in five minutes :stuck_out_tongue:

French is the third most widely spoken language in the world, so why are they using it in London England?

It is a great opening ceremony though. Danny Boyle. I salute you!

Muckaway:
I hope it all goes wrong (G4s have got the ball rolling) and the olympic loving flag waving loonies are made to look a right bunch of (generic term for ■■■■■■).

att:
I really hope that Britain fails spectacularly with these Olympic Games…It actually makes me want to do something to cause a failure :open_mouth:

  Surprise surprise you didn’t launch a terrorist attack then

switchlogic:
Im really excited about the Olympics and can’t wait for my trip to the Olympic Park in just under three weeks. Its going to be brilliant to be there with my friends for the day while the worlds greatest event is in full swing in our own wonderful country. And in decades to come I can tell my nephew (who’s 1) and neice and maybe even their children that yes I went to the London Olympics and it was amazing and tell them first hand all about it. What will you lot do, tell your kids and grandkids you spent the whole time moaning and ■■■■■■■■ on a forum? Im sure that’ll make for a great story, good luck with that.

Oh look, I was right. Have a nice evening.

Dont gloat Luke its not vey dignified . :sunglasses:

I want to gloat, sod dignified. It’s not often the positive of this world get one over on the miserable neysayers so I’m making the most of it.

Absolutely

A washed up girl group from the nineties riding round on zimmer frames fixed to the roof of a London taxi is exactly what the country needed to get it going again.

I like the spice girls.

So Status Quo had been judged to not be worthy enough to take part. They have been around forever. ‘Celebrating the last 50 years of music in Britain’, my arse.

Somebody being around forever doesn’t make them good, and in their case it certainly doesn’t. In case you didn’t notice lots of big acts didn’t take part. And I’d say Bowie and the Rolling Stones are a tad bigger and slightly better than Status Quo.

Opening ceremony was good. Closing ceremony…crap. Miming, poor sound, and hasbeens*. I reckon George Michael will be dueting with Freddie before long judging by his appearance.
Ray Davis was an embarassment and the boss of his care home that sanctioned him to perform needs arresting and forced to wipe excrement from the most cantankerous elderly lorry drivers backsides in Britain.
*Jessie J looked like she needed a good servicing though.
Thank Christ Status Quo didn’t perform; Like Snow Patrol, all their music is so similar, they get repetive strain injury.

I think we as a nation did a great job hosting the Olympics. I’m not a massive sports nut and half the sports involved I would probaly never watch but I really enjoyed it and watched loads and there was a real feel good factor in London.
Just hope there is a viable long term plan for the park and facilities. Don’t think a football team in the stadium is the answer though.

kr79:
Don’t think a football team in the stadium is the answer though.

And the answer is?

I hope they do as they originally planned, remove the top tier exposing the lower bowl and turn it into a nice 25,000 athletics venue (after the 2017 World Athletic Championships of course). Won’t happen though, West Ham will get it and I’ll have to buy some binoculars if I want to see whats going on. :frowning:

That’s the problem the seats are to far from the pitch for football.
Athletics and concerts etc maybe.

You do know there was a couple of weeks between the two ceremonies dont you? And that some truly inspirational brilliant dedicated people did some amazing things and pulled off incredible feats?

Go to say I was one of those who wasn’t to keen on the Olympics in London, I think more for the fear of an embarrassment.
This Country is very good at talking it self down and picking the worst in things, shown by many posts on here.

I also thought the talk of the British team doing better than in China was going to end up with them looking very foolish and in the first few days it did seem to happen. I remember when getting a medals tally into double figures was more than we could even dream of whats changed?

But surprise surprise it was very good and the media and people seemed to get right behind it. The opening ceremony was brilliant and quirky, the sport was great London didn’t seem to grind to a halt. I had to get through London using Public transport on Friday and it wasn’t a problem although there were a lot of people on the train going to the Olympics.

And the fact they might not have got your favorite group to play says something about how many great groups there are and how influential the British music industry has been in the last 50 years. I’ve no problem with Status Quo, did a great job of opening Live Aid, but there are many other groups and singers that are international icons, this was for an international audience and love em or hate em the Spice Girls and George Micheal are International Icons.

For ■■■■ sake lets be proud that this Country has managed to put on 2 events this year that has shown this Country to the World in a positive light.
