Got a phone call earlier on today, I was headhunted for a full time teaching job. I asked for the details to be emailed over to me. This is part of the email.
"The job role would involve teaching GCSE Math’s. Candidates must have a proven track record in teaching GCSE Math’s; and a degree in Math’s. A teaching qualification is also desirable; however not essential, as teacher training is provided.
The salary is between £24 000 - £33 200. £3000 Golden handshake; and £2000 relocation package is also provided"
Considering the ■■■■■■■■ and ridiculous hours associated with teaching, and the fact that I now earn more than that for pointing a lorry in the right direction and pressing the noisy pedal, I respectfully declined.
So, whilst some of you on here complain about the ■■■■ taking wages on offer, just remember, you’re probably doing better than some other so called professions.
I drive with a former dentist, teacher and a couple of company directors who have all chosen pointing a truck in the right direction as an alternative career.
If you can learn to hand in the keys at the end of your shift and go home without a thought about the next day (which is the reason my colleagues all gave for leaving their professions) then this is a great job, even if you work for Eddie!!!
Totally agree my wife is a teacher and I really didn’t understand what goes in to it.
I bet she is nearly up to my sort of hours with all the extra work at home etc.
The hassle she gets from the kids is nothing short of disgraceful and if it was the other way round would be breaking the law.
She has been hit, spat at,threatened even by parents and all for trying to do the best by the kids.
She even had her ■■■■■ stolen out of her class room which was locked, anything done?? Nothing, and the kids know the worst thing that can happen is they get kicked out of school.
And the wage for all this is around £35000.
May sound a good wage but I’d rather drive round all day for my £6000 less.
Its good to see some realism at last, I know there are some really crap driving jobs, whether that be earnings or conditions, or both, but as a “profession” we are not unique.
What really strikes me though, is that Teachers, can spend upto 5 years in University or training to gain their qualifications, and then have to bite their tongue whilst some chavvy parents who dropped out of school at 14, tells them why they are not teaching Damien correctly
As I pointed out to my 14 yr old daughter recently, when she was moaning about how one off her teachers was teaching her, that teacher had spent 11 years in education, 2 yrs at college, and 3 years at Uni and probably another couple of years on the job training, then a further 10 years in the class room, yet my daughter thinks she knows better, knuckle down and get on teenagers who’d have them
I’ve often thought, that teaching and vocational driving have a similarity, that being that everyone as spent time in the classroom, as a child, and that the majority of adults hold a driving licence. It seems to me that joe public think they could handle a classroom, and educate, when I for one, know I certainly couldn’t, teachers have my up most respect. Joe public also believe that because they passed the driving test in a Nissan Micra they could handle a 44ton truck or any truck come to that, and we all know that there is so much more to professional driving, than what the average ordinary licence holder can even contemplate

The things my Mrs has seen is unreal.
One kid was that bad his dad got called in and he was very aggressive towards the Mrs.
The wife once pointed him out at the football one Saturday so a few weeks later I had a little word with this guy,was probably the wrong thing to do and could of back fired but the kid has started behaving a bit better in class.

Cant say I blame you, what man wouldn’t keep a protective eye out for their Mrs

Works for my sister who’s a nurse in a prison - her husband is a guard in the same prison. A prisoner was giving her grief about the way she was treating him when another prisoner asked him if he knew who he was talking to. “That’s Mac’s missus! Shut up, dude!”
@Cavey-the-OP I’m an ex Maths Teacher, should have quit years ago. Wonder how many other professional refugees there are on here…
My wife works in primary school as a teacher, she comes home absolutely drained…its so stressful…she gets up at 05.30, gets home at 18.30/1900…had the return drive from kent to greenwich…been spat at, hair pulled, swore at, ofsted inspections, class inspections, and all of this £43,000 a year…sounds good…but she retires at the end of this term…and she cannot wait.
I used to play golf with a fellow who used to teach accountancy at a University, and now is a postman. He said he was paid £50 per teaching hour, but it wasn’t worth it. What a student sees in the lecture hall is just the tip of the iceberg, for every hour he spent teaching, it took him five hours of preparation. Also, when the tuition fees went up, students started treating him like crap, expecting him to reply to emails immediately, see them late in the evening, putting formal complaints in for trivial stuff, etc, so he packed it in. He loves it, and lives his life through his hobbies.
He says the same thing, he can go home, completely forget about the last day, and crack-on with the next. There’s a liberating feeling about it, that just de-stresses you. Well it does myself anyway!
The level of respect that school kids give to teachers is non-existent, and the kids’ parents don’t help. You can’t help but wonder why on earth people teach nowadays, looking at the s*** we used to give them, it’s ten times worse now. A class of kids who are kicking-off, messing about, throwing stuff around and spouting their opinions is met with a comment to the teacher that they “can’t teach”. At the end of the day, they’ll be struggling for teachers. It’s the government’s problem. Allow proper discipline, and the problem is resolved.

Sorry but that is complete ■■■■■■■■, anybody can learn to drive a truck it is just a learnt skill and not a particularly difficult one to master, look at some of the drivers you see around.
Ex Senior manager (Operations) for a meat manufacturer, dealing with all the supermarkets…Chucked it all in nearly 9 years ago, professional qualifications in that field and a qualified ■■■■■■ therapist/analyst. Qualified Chef, Escoffier trained and the full pastry section 4 years college that was.
Other qualifications for IT…
I have my own business, but I have distributors instead of space and staff…One thing I have learned is that people are a pain in the arse no matter what position they are.
I drive to get out of my office and away from the house and wife and I just like driving…Well I did!
I have a dislike of British people now, they are needy, whiney and expect too much…So I am going to consolidate and move to another country in 24 months…I do not see it getting better here.
The Council in Aberdeen are talking about closing schools because they cant get teachers to go to them.I drive school buses and most of the teachers have my respect.

While I agree it doesn’t take much to get a licence you still get plenty of people who’ve never even sat in a truck who seem to think they are qualified to comment on what a truck driver should have done.

I’m not saying that driving a truck requires the same amount of training or intellect, as that required to be a teacher, that’s clearly not the case. I’m saying that because a person has taken driving lessons in a Micra, or the like, they seem to think that they now have the ability to drive anything with a wheel at each corner, You know that that is no where near true. If it were, then there would be no need for further training in large vehicles.
Like wise, from my limited time on the school run, most of the chav parents seem to think they have the intelligence to run the classroom and teach the 30 children better than the teacher, probably based on the time spent as a pupil, seemingly forgetting the years spent training and doing by the teacher.
A comparison only in the fact that, using a limited experience in either the classroom or behind the wheel, joe public makes pronouncements on either profession

I would say, that by looking at some of the drivers around, some professional, and more ordinary(car) drivers, it does appear to be a particularly difficult skill to master. This is my whole point, you, myself and many others too, found that we had a particular acumen for driving, and that has made you believe it is easy, but trust me, watch in any supermarket car park and then still say that driving is easy, and thats joe public with a car, imagine something bigger
I have to agree with eddie, people make assumptions based on ignorance, and sometimes stupidity. I wouldn’t trust one of my brothers to drive a shopping trolley… Also, how many people think they can do DIY, only to find out they can’t!
