And people ask me why I drive lorries now!

Evil8Beezle:
how many people think they can do DIY, only to find out they can’t!

But that’s because building stuff is easy, unlike driving a truck, :open_mouth: doh, its that ignorance gene again

My mum is a primary school teacher.

She’s been threatened by parents at the school gates, but she’s nails my mum so she gave it back.

Remember when you would sharpen a pencil and it would have a spear like tip? She’s had a kid stab her in the hand with it.

Years of university to make me and my brothers life better, take away the strain of my dad being the only parent earning? I keep telling her to knock it on the head and get her hgv license.

Driving a truck is easy. Driving one safely seems to be the hard part for many.

Kids are arseoles cos they’re allowed to be nowadays. Teachers can’t discipline them, parents can’t or won’t. If they end up being marched to the heads office, they can’t be punished, no caning. If they do something illegal and get caught, the courts do sweet fa. My two boys came home from school together one day and started playing up, when I told them behave, they started telling me their rights. Sadly for them, I ain’t pc :smiling_imp: They gained a reputation for be well mannered and respectful boys.

One time i was delivering soft drinks to a high school and i noticed a lad had opened up my curtains and was trying to steal a case…

i grabbed him and i though he would be all sorry and apologetic, but he looked at me and said, get yer hands off me or i will get you done for assault !! :open_mouth:

Considering the [zb] and ridiculous hours associated with teaching, and the fact that I now earn more than that for pointing a lorry in the right direction and pressing the noisy pedal, I respectfully declined.

Don’t believe the bollox line teachers love to spout. My brother is a teacher. The above is the starting salary and he was on 50% more than he started on after 7 years just due to point grade increases and thats before we mention the pension they get which must be one of the best in the country. He works so many hours as a teacher he did a hypnotherapy course and practised that on the side for a while, got into ultra-running (100+ mile events) which requires loads of training and even started and runs his own company doing ultra-running events which takes a lot of time to organise and run. In short if you’re doing the hours that teachers bleat on about after the first year or two you’re doing it wrong. My uncle and aunt were also teachers, my aunt was head of year. Never saw them spending all weekend and nights marking.

Did a marquee job at a school once, the kids were trying to wind us up and hassle us, but once the 14lb sledgehammers started swinging they thought better of it…

Yes the starting salary is around the 22k mark, and you will move up the pay scale and increase your salary by around 50% (which was clearly shown in the example above) but only with extra qualifications, which are done in your own time. My point was, after doing a degree for three years and amassing 30k debt plus a further two years doing a PGCE or GTP then doing further qualifications whilst working 70-80 hour weeks to gain experience, you can earn less than someone who paid 3k and trained for just a couple of weeks.
By the way, you forgot to mention the holidays. That’s the traditional teacher slagging topic.

I come from a family of them. Mother:head of year/ school governor comprehensive. Auntie: headmistress primary. Brother: advanced skills teacher/head of science comprehensive. Niece teacher primary.

All except my niece working in what can be described as ‘rough’ areas.

It is not a career that does your health much good.

If you want to have some fun ask any of them what they think of Ofsted. Take my advice, stand well back.

Driving and teaching have much more in common than you might first think. The new Chief Inspector for Schools Amanda Spielman has never taught a class in her life - unbelievable but I suppose these days drivers are constantly told what to do by logistics experts who have never driven!

Could not have described it better myself. :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

My youngest son (35) is, besides working full time studying to be a teacher. There’s a shortage of male teachers here, probably because it’s so easy for a bloke to get stitched up with the allegations that some girls can make out of spite. He’s running up a debt of around A$50,000,00 which he has to start paying back when he starts earning a certain amount. We have a teacher living next door to us and another across the road, both female, and both either marking or working out their curriculum in their spare time.

My boy never seems to have a spare minute with his work and studies, but hopefully it’ll pay dividends in the long run.
