I normally whack a ratchet strap across the door handles so they can’t be jigged open if parking in a layby. Overkill maybe but so long as I’m alright I don’t really care what goes on behind me.
Have you got unbreakable windows??

Amazon.com : Stun GunsMost things on this page are far better than a tyre iron, a stun stick combined with pepper spray will knock anyone down.
Two of us tried the stun stick on each other in the yard, it’ll literally knock you off your feet…Ps- im not advocating anyone tackles thieves slicing curtains open but theyre a great self defence if things do go ■■■■ up and youre out of the cab and out numbered…
This is the UK mate, you can go to prison just for owning some of that stuff
How dare you insinuate that decent honest hard-working UK folk should have the right to defend themselves and their property with things that could cause alarm or distress to the yobs crooks and crack-heads who want to rob us or do us physical harm
I may be wrong but I don’t see many cases here where they broke into the cab. How often that happens?
I think most of those people want a quick theft and get out of there.
So if you let them get on with it chances are they will leave the driver alone.
It is life nowadays, lots of robbers, not enough police, not enough punishment, Iike.i didn’t lose anything but it does annoy you a bit when people are trying to work and some putos come and help themselves.

I have been robbed 6x back home and most of them I had a gun pointed at my back or head.I am cool, woke up, saw it and made one phone call, put my coffee on and waited.
H’away mate is it just me?
I was with you up until now.
Apart from asking the obvious which is…Where exactly do you live?
The Bronx.
You have had a (presumably loaded) shooter pointing at your head, (again presumably) by some unpredictable desperate crack head, not once… but most times out of 6
and
Your most memorable emotion was coolness?
…not fear then ?
Something smells a bit over eggy tbh here mate, and it aint my egg sarnies I’m eating now.

Course not but if I know they’re willing to break glass to get into my cab whike ik.in it then it’s fair game to whack them in the face with an adjustable spanner while I’ve got the advantage

Must have missed that one.
Just that my b/s detector went off there a couple of times.

Haha that’s cool mate.
It would be highly likely to be bs if that happened so many times here.
But I grew up in one of the most dangerous areas of Brazil and even though I love my country that place is just hell.
Not proud of saying I have had guns pointed at me, here may seem like a big deal but it is really not for us.
I don’t have any friends who has not been robbed. Only two weeks ago my sister was in a packed bus at 5:pm and two guys boarded it and cleaned everyone, she lost her phone.
I never compared the numbers with bronx and my area but I would think bronx would stay behind. A quick search on brazil murders by fire arm then you will see that chances are I am not bs

Know what youre saying mate Strange though isnt it that a stun gun or pepper spray which has no lasting effects carries such penalties. A better alternative than cracking someone over the head with a tyre lever which could go so very badly wrong. The wrong doers of this world can go about their business tooled up and ready to do others harm but penalties for merely defending yourself can be deemed just as bad
I carry for self defence, no lasting effects. The bat and tyre iron i leave at home, always out of the way of my fiesty fiery missus though, im a muscle bound 16 stone but even so keep out of the way when shes riled up…

0I know it’s old but this is about as much concern that plod show, until load theft becomes a problem on crime figures, nothing will be done.
I’ve always found that trailer sign parking not only a ■■■■ poor method of policing a situation, but so bloody ironic.
Truck crime is as bad now as from as long as I can remember. It stems ONLY from a shortage of parking places, resulting in many of you parking in lay bys.
So they park that ■■■■ thing up (to make it look as if they are doing something ) but the only effect is for every lay by they park one up in it results in one less parking place every time they do it.
You could not make it up eh?
I remember first time i had diesel stolen, i must say it did have a impact on me sleeping in a wagon for a while…
Couldn’t care less about the diesel or the load’ it’s just more someone is maybe 3 foot away from your head and you are blissfully unaware!.
Take it as a learning curve and move on mate
Its properly ■■■■■■ when you wake up to find you’ve been had overnight but chalk it up to learning. I’m not going to say you asked for it by parking there because several places you would think are safe enough turn out to be the wrong place to be, but only on the night you are there!
I have a week horribilis a while back where one of my long serving quiet spots had been found by the ■■■■■■■■ and another one I thought had to be secure turned out not to be. It was then I decided that if I was loaded, I would pay for parking. I recon I spend 66% of my time parked at night with a load on. 66% of 202 (which is 4 x 52) gives me 137.28 nights a year parked with a load on. Assume an average price for parking of £25 a night and you get £3,432.00 a year on parking. Its a lot of money but it not only buys more security but gets the driver access to welfare facilities and a decent cooked meal at night, (unless you are stopped at Moto!). So I am perfectly willing to budget for paying that £66 a week rather than get the surprise of a Goods in Transit excess and the cost of a new curtain.
On the Trump tweet thing, I was pleased it entered the news agenda on Wednesday or whenever it was, because by then I was sick to death of hearing about nothing but how some bloke who will never be King has popped the question to one of my favorite TV characters. How the hell did that become all the news on Monday and Tuesday and into Wednesday?
Got to be honest I always thought of people getting loads stolen and diesel stolen of being a bit fishy. Until last year getting caught in the mayhem of a A14 accident and running out of time. Parked up with a full tank of diesel. Woke up with an empty one and never heard a peep. Didnt feel personally threatened but did feel a bit of a bruised personal pride. ■■■■ happens.

I know what you mean, I had bother relaxing for a few weeks after my first encounter.
I had my 6 yr old boy with me, and there was about 4 of them trying to nick my diesel.
I started the motor up, opened the window and told them to ■■■■ off. They got back in the van and left, but I noticed them hovering about in the van parked up.
They had left this fancy elec pump thing with a pipe attached, looked like a petrol strimmer lying on the concrete.
It was analogue tacho days so I just drove over it with all 6 axles.
I rang the law, they did come out tbf, told me there was the usual ‘‘camp’’ a mile up the road, and that this hadn’t been the first occasion.
They saw the funny side of me destroying their pump, put it in their van, signed my card and I moved to where I was tipping about 5 miles up the road, fearing they would come back at me, not for myself but my little lad’s safety…who slept through it all.

I’m always careful where I park now, especially lay-bys if they is a track in the grass leading to the wagons I’ll give it a miss… Could be off wagon drivers going for a tramp ■■■■ in the bushes’ or could be the diesel fairy’s!
For weeks after I’d lay there with the curtain moved so i could see out the n/s mirror’, didn’t sleep at all… Now i just don’t care just don’t interrupt my beauty sleep
I’m VERY selective where I park nowadays, minimum requirement well lit, preferably right under a streetlamp, and if poss where other trucks are.
Never lay bys for theft reasons and remoteness, never MSA s for theft… and an aversion to being ripped off.
Some of the places I used to park in the past I would not dream of doing now.
If you park in a lay by, and/or some remote dark area, you have nothing to moan about if you get turned over, …as you have done absolutely nothing in terms of prevention.

We only have a few drivers and we all help each other out with places to stay, it’s like a well known truck stop on the m1… That busy they now send drivers down to where we have parked for years, soon end up a no go place!
How much is a flat-packed dressing table worth if you’re trying to sell it out the back of a transit?
Seems like a lot of graft compared to fleecing old folks for roof repairs or tree surgery. I could see the incentive if it was an inside job and aftershave or designer clothes or something.

That lot can sell anything.

I do wonder about that even?
If youre offered a big name perfume from a market stall or whatever wouldn
t you assume it`s just a well packaged copy anyway?
I certainly dont buy owt "dodgy". It
s either a cheap substandard copy or else you`re funding thieves. No market for knocked off goods equals no theft from trailers.
