Travelling south M1 between J13 & 12 this fire officer passed me on the hard shoulder. He was heading to an incident which had already been dealt with.
My point is, why do these fire officers need to race around like lunatics when the troops are already on the ground dealing with whatever incident is taking place? Especially when it’s not a life or death situation.
Am I nitpicking or do I have a valid point? youtube.com/watch?v=C00YxacUntQ&feature=plcp

Yes nitpicking!! Video only shows off your camera and the fact it was probably easier fir them to use hard shoulder (can’t see behind you). How do you know incident was deal with??
Methinks it was an opportunity to show of your on board camera - must get one
He’s probably racing to the incident to see if he can pick the fire crews up on incorrect procedure! They make no difference to small incidents and just clutter up the roads with another set of blue lights!
I personally think it’s highly dangerous racing down the hard shoulder even if you are one of the emergency services it only takes a family to pull over at the wrong time because the little kid wants a pee and it’s chocolates.
Edit, just watched video and absolutely ridiculous the motorway was reasonably quite and like I said what he done was unnecessary and stupid.

Traffic was pretty light.
I know the incident was dealt with because in the 2nd video the fire engine is leaving the scene.
And the camera isn’t brand new, I’ve had it a month.
Yes get one, they’re great value for money & could save your licence one day.

It is also possible that the fire officer was redirected to another incident somewhere else, it has been known for more than one incident to happen in ane area at the same time. His was nowhere to be seen in the second clip, so he must have moved on pretty quick

Actually he slowed down, I followed the fire engine and they both exited at J12 to return to the station in Kempston, (Bedford).
Just in case anyone jumps to the wrong conclusion, I am not anti fire brigade, far from it, I have the utmost respect for these guys.
It’s just misuse of sirens and lights I am against. Not to mention unnecessary speeding.

it’s a power thing- they do it, because they can.
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. I was walking past Bedford prison a couple of weeks ago. Two fire engines parked outside, must have been a hoax call. The white fire officer came screaming through the town, lights and horns ablaze. Total over dramatics.

Good post, jarvo, yeah, Russia’s the place. Never been. Was working my way up to it as a T2 shunter 'til 1997 when the Ball & Chain gave me an ultimatum “Get a proper job or I’ll divorce you”
I did the maths and it was more cost effective to tug my forelock and bow and scrape to her demands. So, all it cost me was my sense of freedom, my sense of humour, and the ability to think for myself. However, when all’s said and done, I’ve got used to being a trolley dolly now and you can hardly see the scar from the lobotomy.
