In the second film it looked as if the Appliance had pulled away and simply got up to motorway speed before moving onto the motorway and giving all around the chance to see them AND (big and) so somebody doesn’t do something stupid and other motorists can take the required action, ie slow down slightly and allow the emergency vehicle clear access. It had the Blue and Two’s going so it wasn’t a trip to the chippy!
In the first film the vehicle would have been driven by the Duty Officer, he would be at home and not in the station and gets called out by the Control Room, he may only recieve a message such as RTC possible fatalities, the area and what Appliances have been sent. He will take command once there if necessary. His access on the slip road may have been the better choice to get through quickly without having to disperse other traffic that was travelling slower. As for it looked like a false alarm, well it could well have been but that wouldn’t become apparant until they get there, they can only go off what Control has recieved on an incident.
Emergency vehicles have Blue lights and Sirens to alert other road users and pedestrians, however this doesn’t always work and its amazing how some motorists can have an appliance behind them and not even know and in some cases not even care. I’ve witnessed in some instances other drivers racing an emergency vehicle or not allowing it free passage, these idiots must get some kind of kick out of it, probably while someone is dying. They don’t want anyone to do anything dramatic, just allow passage when its safe to do so, the emergency driver is trained to get through traffic at speed they just don’t want anyone doing something daft infront of them. To be honest we wouldn’t care if an Ambulance, Fire Appliance or Police car was flying over the top of us if it meant it was saving someones life at the end. Just let them go on their way and be glad its not you they are looking for. Cheers Franky.
