Always keep a diary people

i’ve just received a letter from greater Manchester police claiming that on the 24th of march i was driving a lorry while not wearing a seatbelt, Now my memory isn’t that good so luckily i trawled through my diary and it showed that i didn’t work that day…i knew it wasn’t me because i always wear a seat belt, as i was on agency at the time and cab hopping without a diary it would of been hard to remember what i was doing on that particular day, it happened to me it could happen to you. a simple one minute each morning writing the vehicle reg and destinations could save you a lot of possible grief

Been told that by a few senior drivers. When I fill in my hours now online it gives me an option for notes so I just put in where I’ve delivered to that day.

Can you apply for an exemption on the grounds that your sofa is not fitted with seatbelts!

Agreed - Many years ago I was accused of stealing some stuff from a warehouse that I delivered to. I was able to categorically say (some six weeks after the event) that I was on a different run that day.

Always kept a diary with where I’ve been, registration number and trailer numbers. It’s not so bad when using tachos, as I can go out to the yard and take a print out and prove what truck you were driving, but when I was on the buses you had no tacho, so you own notes were fundamental in proving innocence.

I always write down what I’m doing & keep it for future reference & put it on a spread sheet on my IPad, I got asked about a damaged pallet, delivered to Warrington a couple of months ago, because the load had been allocated to my fleet number-M50 (my old wagon) on the paperwork, turned out on checking my spread sheet, I was no where near Warrington that day & the driver of M51 (The Culprit) happened to be standing next to me as I checked me records. BUSTED ! [emoji6]

Always keep one = not very detailed, but has saved a lot of punch ups in the past

To that I would have said
“Do you have proof? Because if you dont, thats slander. Ill take an apology now thanks”
And to the op id say ask them to show you the proof. No picture evidence then it doesnt matter whether you did or didnt have your belt on or where you actually where.

I’ve kept a daily work diary since 1991.

Still have all of them.

If nothing else you can go back through it and look to see where you were and what you were doing and remember the old days.

Sad but true.

Always kept a work diary.
I also write in my diary and defects I put on defect card.

‘…always keep a diary…’

I totally agree - and reminds me of when I learned of a larger-gentleman ‘manager’ begin to make accusations of a complaint received, supposedly against an innocent colleague

Upon reviewing both his social and run diaries, the innocent colleague saw that he was on holiday - whereupon the ‘manager’ replied '…let me see that … I can check, you know…!’

My friend is sorely tempted to add names - since the accuser remains out there peddling his (also bloody-mindedly arrogant) self in transport, somewhere… :exclamation:

Clue: He’s a complacent and vindictive, red-faced, ginger-mustached tabber with the charm of a striking ■■■■ and the charisma of a cemetery who got asked to leave his last job for secretive reasons that none-the-less brought satisfying joy to the lives of many :unamused:

Burn, bridge, burn… :smiling_imp:

Start, finish and break times, where ive been and what trailers ive had, all damage on them if any, without fail…

I don’t keep a diary, Timesheets and Digi Card Download does the same thing.

They probably were not at fault, and would make sure the company concerned was even more ■■■■■■ off for filling in the wrong details on a S172 Form.

Not really the police forces fault they were given incorrect information
