I heard on R4 news this morning that the Govt is approaching the transport industry to enquire how easy it is to hire a truck for terrorist purposes like the atrocity in Nice. Without being xenophobic, what indicators might you see suspect nefarious activity? I’ve always kept the anti-t number (0800 789 321) on my phone but never used it.

I think the gov could aford to by there own i dont see the need for them to rent one, that would mean fake ids and other stuff which cost money, and they would have to account for that more propergsnder from the bbc, take it with a pinch of salt.

If they can get pilots in 4 planes at the same time and crash them together then getting a driver into a truck should be easy

Why would any terrorist hire one? Surely they would thieve one, as said pinch of salt

I’ve always thought that the hijacking of a petrol tanker was a very real possibility. (Hope ISIS aren’t reading this).

Anyone would think we’re at war.

Now that is quite scary …

After 9/11 they really came down on truck drivers here, the fear is that terrorists might use a truck bomb, we were and still are banned for using the lower level of the GWB and at first all weigh stations were open 24/7. When I enquired why to a DOT officer he replied “to see if there is a bomb inside your truck”
“OH right” I replied, “How much does a bomb weigh ?”
I got not answer.

Errrrr, I don’t think the government are interested in actually hiring a truck, they want to know how easy it is. Unless you’re one of those nuts who thinks the government is behind everything

Aren’t we?

Yes, apart from a formal declaration. 'Cos the ambassador doesn’t know who to give it to.

Not according to Rjan. His view appears to be we asked for it and should ■■■■ it up

This Government enquiry is a waste of time. You’d think it was beyond the realms of possibility for a terrorist to get an hgv license, get a job and then be given a truck to drive by his employers

Quite hard in this country to hire a lgv without a o’license. Would be easier just to steal one, amount of drivers I see leave their truck unattended with the engine running is crazy.

I won’t argue if “we asked for it” or not but regardless I would say we are.

Anyone seen the news about Brussels?

I agree I think they would just steal one. Either unattended or just threatening the driver who I am sure would give the keys, reasonably so I would expect

Not every thing but most ,wernt they responsible for mitsamatosis

I think it might give the game away at the point of renting it,if they asked…just show us the pedal that makes it go…we don’t need to know what one makes it stop…

what sort of percentage of trucks are tracked now by the company - and how quickly do companies pick up on the fact their wagon is off route? In some/many cases a truck may not get all that far before the police are alerted with a known position.

I think they might have tracked the planes on 911,imight be wrong ,but if they did track them they would have none that they were off course, this is just a ges

Most firms that deliver to cities don’t have set routes, it wouldn’t be noticed by the office. I’ve gone down the Strand and other “tourist” routes in London and the office has said nowt.
