Alert! trailer leg fine increase!

Yes it’s true! On a recent DCPC course a couple of the trainees and the trainer all agreed that the fine had gone up to £60 for each complete turn of the handle. Nodding sagely as they made winding motions and saying “kerching” with each rotation.

I did ask about incomplete turns, but they appeared to be unable to divide sixty by four or two before I could stand no more and had to go outside on the premise of needing a glass of water.

This is a DCPC trainer, let’s not forget.

EDIT. For those of us who don’t do irony, inference or sublety: It is total rubbish that some clown made up and other clowns repeated, now it has seemingly made its way into DCPC courses where people are expected to believe everything the trainer says (and in fairness should expect to recieve factual information). Which is the point I’m making. :unamused:

I would have asked the trainer to show me where that was on the VOSA sanctions list which is available online

It will be going up to £90 a turn soon

I really can’t see how you’d get a fine, surely you wind them right up anyway, why would you leave them 2/3/ 6 turns short of wound up unless your stupid :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Cool username, bro.

They should put the handle into low gear first to get the most out of it. Would be 5 times the profit in it for them lol!

Aaargh! Why didn’t I think of that? I could have had great sport with them!

At this precise point i would have put my headphones in and listened to some music.
Sometimes when you complete the last turn, the handle won’t go into the stow away bracket anyway so you have to wind it off a bit.

Cos they can be old and bent and physically won’t go all the way up. There’s an old Tesco trailer that was in our yard that you couldn’t get the legs the last 2 inches up… Not from the lack of trying though…

My trainer for class 1 mentioned this he said it was £30, I asked the examiner on my test if it was true he said yes but wasn’t 100% sure on the cost… finally I asked my assessor at work and he told me it was £60. Sure these 3 people should know if you get fined or not, shouldn’t they?

OK Guys, listen carefully.

There is no way you can be fined per turn of the handle. OK?

Can you imagine trying to explain to a court why you brought this driver here and the method you used to fine him? Really?

I imagine even if it were possible it would require a statutory instrument and that ain’t ever going to happen.

However… If you’re driving along with the trailer legs a couple of inches from the ground, expect to get stopped and if you do get an official sanction it would more likely be under that favourite: General Vehicle Condition. I would say that a smart Police Officer would probably be able to stick a lot more on you if he was in a bad mood.

In Summary, don’t listen to MMTM crap.

I heard one visiting driver bollock their companies other visiting driver for not raising the leg on a wag & drag, with the words “£1000 per turn of the handle”.
Looking at the leg, it was bent and has been for ages as they struggle to get it under the demounts without first putting the demounts on a plank of wood or two (under each leg).
I only had 2 hours to go on my shunting shift (or walking around trying to look busy while sunning myself, as I call it) and didn’t fancy a long drawn out debate, which invariably involves the phrase “I’ve been driving these for X years, I know what I’m talking about”.

I have borrowed this post for a BB I use. Like M. Leclerc I will return with the results when I get them

What’s a BB?

You just put it in between the gears and move it freely to where you want it…
