Update…

Mr pointy shoes was over-ruled by Mr big pointy shoes (the one with the company car, big salary and pension benefits).

The boss agreed with the driver and booked the motor off.

FFS the snowflakes win again.

Mr Pointy shoes won’t like that. I think Mr Pointy shoes might be planning a few crappy runs for Mr driver in the near future.

You could also argue that it was decent for the big boss to consider the welfare of his staff.
I work for a decent mob that will put us in hotels on a night out when it’s hot. The argument is they have a duty of care to their employees and getting a proper night’s sleep is one of them.
It actually wasn’t that expensive to use a hotel. The room was £45 put free parking in the services so it was actually only £15 more to put us in the hotel.

Hey don’t knock it mate, it’s nice to hear of a firm that actually give a ■■■■ about their drivers for a change, and who show a bit of care and consideration towards them…a rarity in this job today.
I know which type of firm I’d prefer to work for, and tbh I wouldn’t give a flying ■■■■ if I was called a snowflake for it.

I don’t like A/C another thing that can go wrong.

gimmie a 30 year old Celica with wind down windows and no AC over a 5 year old car with all the gadgets any day.

Geesh … Next He’ll Be wanting a truck with a radio that works

And demanding an auto.

I reckon a/c is essential and should work, people moan about crap money but why sweat your ■■■■ off for crap money if theres no need to?
In my mind its one of the most important things going, the rest is just toys.

I used to work as a daf dealer and it always amazed me how many vehicles where the driver was expected to do physical work did not have a/c fitted

We never did have air con and if fitted was a luxury. No way should anyone VOR a truck off the road for such a triviality. I only ever use it to sometimes knock the temp down a few degrees even in our heat, the problem being, have ice cold climate control for any period of time and the heat hits even harder when out of the truck…

I consider having A/C as a luxury,if I lost the wagon i’m driving now [which will be soon as i’m moving]and I had to drive a wagon without A/C,i would have a little gripe open the windows then knuckle down and get on with it,not a lot you can do if bossman isn’t willing to sort it out.

With you there Andrew.
Knocking the in cab temp down too much, only makes it harder when you’ve gotta get out.
There are limits to it, but getting used to bit of warmth is easier than the shock of going from cold to hit.

In winter we can dress up for outdoors, in summer we’re more limited.

I was a baker before going out on the road, can hardly believe some of this stuff.

id just be telling them to give it to the agency , they can apparently drive anything :exclamation:

Seen a driver refuse to drive an 05 plated Merc last year because it was a manual with paper disc tacho and no air con fitted and no cd player, (Cassette … old school) FFS :unamused:

Can manage without air con but not without Sara Cox on a night!!

Compare this driver with the hardy men that drove to the middle east in day cabs with nothing more than 2 planks of wood and some UHT milk and it makes you weep.

Totally this…
For the right ££££££’s I would drive that truck to the chuffin moon.
Only peanuts attract monkeys and the balance to the force has to be how far the chimp is prepared to reach out for the peanut.

In short, if a “professional” driver wont do the job, my market share just went up.

AND…exactly this.
Many generations fought and died so these duckeggs can complain their USB doesn’t work.
No wonder people are prepared to swim from France to take your place.

Buy one at a DIY, looks easy to install.

To be fair a roof air con pod was realistically an available and essential bit of kit by the 70’s in the desert climate and which usually made the rare sight of a real Middle Easter running here believable over many of the TIR signed up wannabees doing nothing more glamourous than UK general haulage. On that note I think from memory there’s a bit in the book Cola Cowboys concerning the life threatening dangers of leaving an air conditioned cab during the Summer desert heat of the day ? let alone not having it at all.

However if you were to say many of the early days US and Australian type operations running through the Southern/Western US or Australian tropical/interior summer heat then quite possibly by necessity they were total nutters. :smiling_imp:
