Bit of a row…
Going on yesterday morning at our place involving a driver and Mr pointy shoes behind the desk.
It seems the A/C wasn’t working on the motor he’d been allocated. The driver refused to drive it and pointy shoes flatly refused to accept broken A/C as a good enough reason to VOR a motor.
What does the panel think?
Simple answer open the windows, and get going.A/C does not make a motor unfit for the road

This ^^^^^^^^^ Mr pointy shoes was correct for once.
What an injustice, how about those working in manufacturing plants in this heat, ive done it and god I love driving a truck in summer when I think back to the days I was in full face mask/ overalls mixing chemicals together to make ink at 160 degrees celsius
Mr Pointy Shoes by a country mile I`m afraid
Ive had a driver in the last month or so moaning about his air-con not working, so I
ve been trying to organise it where the truck gets seen to en route, so nothing is too disrupted for anybody
Anyway, I got to take it out the other Saturday on a rush job down to Exeter…guess what ?..he only had all the vents shut, and wasn’t using the correct instructions for the air-con…i.e., press this, press that…boom, cold enough to freeze fish
Now that could of been a costly waste of time, luckily, I`m hands on
Does your defect book. Mention aircon?
Just tell them.its faulty and open a window

This seems like you had a case of “The operative needs to RTFM” have noticed this when driving other people’s motors, all our Volvo’s have climate control, but the Muppets will learn how to use it to there advantage, they will put the a/c or heat on then blower on full and then either windscreen or feet, then you hear, “bloody a/c-heat isn’t much good” std reply is put it on auto… O that’s better thank you.
Another vote (as much as I hate it[emoji47]) for Mr pointy shoes

No it’s not VOR, but that doesn’t mean it never needs fixing.
Luckily there’s lots of jobs about for good drivers, and the type of employer who would not get it fixed soon as convenient is the sort of job that few would lose sleep over leaving, so these things tend to sort themselves out.
I never bothered much about aircon when you could have the windows open (prefer real to artificial air), but in modern lorry design the noise and buffeting with windows open make that happy state of affairs a joy of the past, and injured thoroughly ■■■■■■ off wasps bounce off the mirror and end up trapped between your back and the seat, ouch.
Certainly not a VOR but admittedly a pain in the Harris but the pointy shoe wearer was correct, I remember when only the poshest of trucks had a/c now it’s pretty much standard issue the majority of the time .
First world problems.
You are going to get eaten alive by the Chinese if you see this as a dodge from working and I am prepared to feed you to them.
Whats next…? “My bluetooth wont sync, cannot drive it Boss”
FFS.
Nothing unusual for a/c or night heaters to be ignored when they are not in use, nobody seems to bother much to give either of them a “whirl” every now and again to check they are working, even when motors go in the garage for a vehicle service. This usually happens when a Driver is on “locals” never has nights out or not in the cab long enough to get any benefit of a/c the problem only comes to light when somebody has to “borrow” his /her motor to do another job.
Bet in this case a/c has never been used since last summer and the gas has escaped and needs re-gassing

Don’t laugh mate we already have the ‘‘Can’t go my sat nav aint working’’ crew.
Wouldn’t be happy tbh if air con wasn’t working in this hot weather, I’d still run with it,… but make ■■■■ sure it was fixed asap.
As for night heater gone in hard winter?
Not a ■■■■ chance,.and this is somebody who ran Aberdeens in winter pre night heater days kipping across the bonnet when you scraped the ice off the INSIDE of the screen in morning.
Sure as hell not today, more savvy now, and those days are long gone.

Or gas cutting, welding and grinding steel dressed in all the protective kit in a factory with a glass roof during the summer of '76.
While I’d never heard of air con being fitted other than in Middle East running trucks in the day and the first I ever experience I had of it being fitted in a vehicle was in a hire car in the states. Then ironically bought a Jag with it fitted as standard and found out how much it costs to maintain so removed it.I’ll never forget then driving the thing in the 40 C heat of the French and Italian summer of 2010.

As for the OP’s complaint. There’s nothing like driving with all the windows open during a warm summer night and early morning on a night trunk. But then you have to pay for it by having to sleep through daytime temperatures unless you want to pay to air condition the house out of your own money.
Our lot would be screwed…none of our trucks have air con and we do a very physical job when not driving, so we have severe sweaty Betty’s all day long. One truck that I often drive doesn’t even have electric windows…
Think I might go on strike.
Would you forego you AC for a nightheater, you can have either but not both

I’d rather have Aircon, having had a truck that the night heater packed up on, and no Aircon till it was fixed, The keeping warm at night was easy, just switch the 13L heater on

Night heater over A/C any day

Update…
Mr pointy shoes was over-ruled by Mr big pointy shoes (the one with the company car, big salary and pension benefits).
The boss agreed with the driver and booked the motor off.
