Agency not paid me, what can be done?

Good morning!
Your thoughts please…
I had a call out of the blue from an agency previously used offering me long term work. The work involved 2 weeks training to start, then on from then.
I went to the office to be fed all the normal rubbish, and was asked to sign a for that basically said, non completion of the 2 week training would result in no monies being paid. Not a problem I thought, even if the job didn’t suit, 2 weeks work! So win win!
First week was class room based H+S cover your ■■■■ sign lots of forms! The second was practical out doing the job.
Top and bottom of it, got to the end of the second week and phoned said agency on told them that it was not for me! He said fair enough, shame, but fair enough.
Was paid for the first week, second weeks money is nowhere to be seen!
I have phoned them and still waiting for a return call, I resent my time sheet, Nothing! Even texted them asking if the wage query was sorted, Nothing! I will speak to them today whatever happens as I will drop into the office.
Just wondered if the have a leg to stand on? Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks for any advice guys…

I done a few weeks work with BRIDGE RECRUITMENT from Bristol once and for these few weeks they had been giving me an over inflated hourly rate. Of course when they eventually paid me ( late i might add ) it was a lot less than should have been. I did get a soliciter friend to draft a letter up but they knew i couldn’t do a lot about it as it was only a couple of hundred pound, anyway i think they folded after that because the office shut down. So maybe get a letter drafted up threatening legal action but be prepared for them to ignore it.

Your best bet is to go to the office, see what they say and then go from there.

If you don’t get anywhere then pay £25 for a solicitor to send them an invoice for your work, recorded signed delivery, with payment terms (EG within 30 days, which is about the standard accepted)

Have you got any Tacho records or anything else you could include?

If they don’t pay within 30 days then take 'em to the small claims court. Yes it will cost a bit of money but you cant let the leeches get away with it.

They will have got paid for the work, so should you!

You could try this

But I wouldn’t recommend it

Last resort me thinks!

Thanks for the replies chaps!

Went to said office today and surprise surprise the bod who was looking after this account was nowhere to be seen! I shall try again Monday because something tells me I won’t be offered any work from them again!

They really do not do them any favours do they?
Who the hell do they think they are?

I would write to the Managing Director stating your case as you have in your post and give them a specific time to reply - two weeks should be enough… Don’t threaten them with anything but make it clear that you aren’t going to give up.

Keep a copy of the letter and send it recorded delivery so they can’t deny they got it.

If that fails you can go to the CAB or find a solicitor who specialises in this stuff.

What on earth requires you to have 2 weeks training?

Oh and lets be honest here… You went to do two weeks training for a job. You are the one that agreed to do it. What you have done is waste peoples time by going through the training process then just washed your hands of it as you seen it as two weeks easy money.

If it was my agency you wouldn’t have got a penny :unamused:

Just go in and [zb] trash the place.

Monday (morning) is always wages day, theyre usually busy working flat out to process the timesheets/wages. Its the best time to pay them a visit IF monies have not been paid as itll cause maximum disruption because its the worse time to visit the office. But its highly likely the person dealing with the wages, & the person making the decision to pay you will be in the office.

no disrespect to the OP, however IMO the OP should have held out until he`d been paid both weeks before telling the agy to stick their job. As it proves that some people make hasty decisions without thinking the concequences through

This sounds like an agency that I know.

I can appreciate that you don’t wish to name while your in dispute, but if you would care to pm me the name, I would be interested.

Ken.

You’ve wasted the companies time and the agencys money because you thought… Not a problem I thought, even if the job didn’t suit, 2 weeks work! So win win!
Now it is a problem, its cost you too !!!

Where is your sense of humour■■?

Ignore me

You could do what i did and tell them that you are going to the employer and ask them for the weeks wages. My agency paid up because I think it would not be good for their contract by upsetting their customer.

I agree with this

Morning!

" Not a problem I thought, even if the job didn’t suit, 2 weeks work! So win win! "

This was an off the cuff, after the fact remark. I was genuinely wanting long term work, as do we all. As I said the first week was classroom based, the second being on the job with full time employees. It was only when I got to the end of week two that I decided that the job just didn’t suit. It was just too heavy. Also remembering that at any time they could tell me I was not required.
Why does that only work one way these days?
Whilst I agree that it was two weeks wasted on me, I still think I should be paid. If I was not entitled to any money at all, why are the agency not phoning me to recover week one’s wage back?

Thanks for all comments I do appreciate it…

This seems like a good place to start. Thanks for that.
