Agency drivers - who works tomorrow?

Coffeeholic:

Pat Hasler:
Another downfall of agencies !

I know it would be hard but you all need to apply for perminant jobs and nobody go to the agencies, that way they will loose contracts and fold, then companies will have no choice but take on full time drivers.

What about people who do not want to be tied to a company or having to always work certain days and enjoy the flexibility of picking and choosing?

Pat says they’re wrong and agencies should be banned, but, Agencies exist because chuck Norris allows them to exist

Last shift 23rd december, had 1 phone call last week at 10pm to do a 1am start but turned it down due to being up all day.

I’m managing about 2/3 days a week, which is enough to keep my head above water

Same here,3 days last week, got a run today, dont know about tomorrow, one day at a time and all that.

Have to say i am bored of my job and was going to phone around the other agency’s to see what was going on but the agency i am with have kept me on a 5day/6day shift for the last 4 and a bit years.I think i should count my blessings and stay put.I hope it picks up for you all.

Definitely count those blessings.

Welcome to the annual bleak season ladies and gents.
Some of you will be well used to this annual phenomenon and will have squirrelled away enough money to see you though it. Others will have squandered it all.
Some will be packing their bucket and spade and be heading off to the sunshine for a holiday, others will be heading down to the jobcentre to sign on the dole.
Personnelly throughout the year I put aside each week a percentage of the monies I’ve earned to cover my dues to HMRC, running costs, etc and ultimately an additional 25% for those “rainy days, and the bleak season Moments” when I may not be working. It’s something that’s seen me through good and bad times, and when there have been good years, I draw the rermaining rainy day money that’s left over in April when the new tax year starts.

Don’t no about B list worked from mid feb to 23rd dec 5 days every week at same firm on £10 per hour so don’t mind a few weeks at home.

Spoke to a couple of agencies I’m still registered with earlier on today.

One, who for years had always kept me in work all month every month said to me “There’s not even any van work I can offer you, to be honest, if you ring back in the next couple of weeks It’ll just be a waste of a call, out of all the drivers we’ve got on our books I’ve only got 3 working today and 2 days of work for 2 of them a couple of days in the next fortnight, all ADR stuff”

The other one said that they had probably a day or two a week for anyone who wanted van work at £6 an hour, 5am start and 65+ drops a day plus collections.

The other agency I used to use prior to getting a full time place last September haven’t even answered their phones the past two days so I reckon they’ve shut up shop!

Got to be the quietest January I’ve known since I started driving in 2006

Same here. Did have 2 weeks worth of class 2 multidrop work but thats been cancelled and moved to next week apparently. Got 1 day of 7.5ton work covering London which I like doing, and the company keeps asking for me, so that’s Wednesday covered. Just need Thursday and Friday to be booked with some work and I’ll break even this week. Even Citylink and the rest are dead quiet, was flat out with work from them on the run up to christmas, and only had 1 day from them this year.

I’ve had Jack ■■■■
:frowning:

Yes I’ve got work all this week I’ve been doing five days a week constant since October and making the most of it as long as it lasts
