Agency drivers. Are you want get full time ■■?or prefer work from agency??
I’d never do a full time job again! S/e best way, can pick and choose when I want to work. They could offer me double or even treble what I charge now to go full time on the books with them and I’d turn it down. Well, unless they agreed to me just taking off time when I want.
Nope, have to admit I couldn’t hack driving HGVs full time for more than a couple of months, maybe because most of the shifts I do are nights. For me its a kind of back-up plan.
No, I don’t want yet full time job.
Maybe in 2018, or when rates have risen beyond £15ph locally.
I’d run a mile in tight shoes to avoid a full time job.
Once you’re full time, the shafting begins…
It’ll be gentle strokes at least for the next 3 months or so… Then the vigorous pounding you feel every stab of, having not popped down to superdrug for some KY kicks in… ■■■ January. That being the name of the bloke behind you…
Stop it with the little letters Winseer! I like your posts but I’m buggered if I’m gonna put my glasses on to read the last bit.
If someone would give me a job of just doing RDC runs then I’d bite their hands off.

Nothing but RDC runs for a living That’s one way to kill your enthusiasm for the HGV driving game, given your a newbie I’d rethink that!
Not surprised by the responses to this thread so far, the self-employed enthusiasts straight in. For me, agency work is marmite. Some people love the flexibility & variety, but others (most) place more value on routine & not having to worry about your income from week to week. I do see the appeal of agency work & I actually respect the people that have done it successfully over a long period and have companies requesting them in person.

Driving up and down the motorway, not having to handball. Sounds like my idea of fun. Just as long as I don’t have to go near the Dartford crossing I’m a happy trucker.

Bugger. I’ve just tried to go back and edit it - and I can’t read it myself.
No. Been permanent a couple of times. Never again Agency for me for the last 10 years.
Anyway, it’s horses for courses. Can’t blame anyone for wanting a regular wage every week and some sort of security .
I would have thought the sensible time for recruiting drivers would have been at least a year ago, not this last minute panic because of the CPC. The company I’m at now invited us to apply for full time permanent work. Some agency have gone for it. Most have not. They have not filled their jobs.
Interesting times.
Again l like to be able to take time off when l want not when they
tell me l can lol
If the agency rates ive been offered recently continue into the new year ill be lookin at gettin a pay rise or am off back to agency land

Is it? I guess each to their own but…
Most jobs involving RDC trunking are in new or nearly new trucks. There is generally a set start time and set run, so you are reasonably likely to be able to calculate your return time. There is little or no hand balling. The routing is a doddle because it’s all main routes and motorway. If it’s night trunking, there’s very little traffic and places are often less busy. The places you are going are generally designed for easy access by a truck. Some have very good facilities (at least a loo without half an inch of ■■■■ on the floor). Finally, some of the best hourly rates can be found doing this kind of work.
So, ■■■■ easy work, easy routes, reasonable motors, no hand balling and among the best hourly rates you’ll get. The worst you can say is it’s a bit boring. But, I’m never bored when I’m earning some excellent coin for doing very little!
What’s not to like?
Morning All,
I am just getting back into driving and was thinking of joining a Agency, as i don’t really want to do full time at the moment and i can choose the days/nights i would want to work, but saying that i am also looking at being a casual driver for a company, i shall see how it goes
Prefer agency. Usually on more money, can choose when I want to work and if its a crap job never go there again.
I’ve done a lot of it so long ago I learned that it was better to work like hell when it was busy so you could earn a year’s money in 9 months and take January to March off leaving other people to drive in the cold and the snow just doing odd days when you got bored.
I like the idea of zero hours direct for the company, cut out the agency idiots & their bs, come & go as you please, best of both worlds:mrgreen:
Unlikely to go back to full time, I much prefer the ability to say when I will or won’t work without having to explain the reason to some desk driver.
if its better paid then stick with agency, we all get out of bed for the pay, as far as im concerned regular agency drivers are the ■■■■■■ of the industry, (Whores) i blame the fools that hire them, ya get what ya pay for ha ha, cant wait till sept 14,
