Now what would that Henry Long outfit be loaded with Ramone? I wonder if it still had to be roped? Cheers Dennis.

Was given this to drive when i was 21 ! those were the days! George Betts was the driver in the picture and i took the lorry over from him.

It would probably have yarn on from Courtaulds either just loaded from storage or just getting ready to tip in Longs yard, and yes if it was going out on the road it would definitely be roped

Now I could just about manage to rope that waggon and trailer Ramone, maybe not as quickly as I once could but I’ll guarantee it would be a tidy job and nowt would fall off!! Cheers for the gen Dennis.

I dont doubt that for a minute Dennis, i think Longs had a contract with Courtaulds i know they went to quite a few including Greenfield in North Wales and Grimsby there was also 1 in Bradford ,in fact they were all over the place. The yarn was usually loaded into cardboard boxes then either craned or wheeled onto the back of the wagon ,no pallets then so they wouldn`t be a straight forward roping job

That is a lovely AEC picture too, although the Coventry Motor Packing Co Ltd is proper period imagery.

toxic gas man:
Hi LB76 great pic that is, proper lorry and trailer, isnt it one of Motor Packing Limited or something like that, from Coventry? cheers Ted

Yes it is one of Motor Packing, from Coventry, was that taken on the Dunchurch road? where the M45 ends.

I would guess that was taken around `68 in Longs new yard at Lidget Green Bradford. Its from an excellent AEC dvd Peter Davies as produced with a few hundred AECs on it

Nice pic did it actually do the middle east?

That one went to Afghanistan driven by Gordon Pearce who is on TN somewhere. Oh yes it did the job alright.

I have been reliably informed by a well know West Midlands restorer of Ergo’s that the Asian Transport MM6 has been found and is in reasonable condition. How good would that be to see it restored to it original condition.

Would be good Jamie, let’s hope someone sympathetic restores it as it deserves , i know someone who will be very interested in it.
