Having already got all the rest, I want to have classes 1 and 7 on my ticket but PSTT where I took my ADR 2 through 9 didn’t offer classes 1 and 7. Who’s the best for training in those two classes? Ideally someone close to Lincoln.
If you search for threads about these classes you’ll find the consensus is that they are highly specialised, and arn’t worth getting unless you already work within that sector. So if you only want to add them to have “the full set” then you may spend a lot of money for nothing

Hi Radar19,
The choice of ADR modules offered by PSTT is the same combination that most of the ADR providers in the UK offer.
IMHO, the reason for this is probably the expense involved in setting it all up (relatively high) versus the likely return on that investment (relatively low.)
This isn’t helped by the rarity of work involving Classes 1 and 7.
peirre is spot-on here:

At a guess, I’d say you’d be looking at £300ish to put Classes 1 and 7 onto an existing ADR card.

If you’re determined to press on, here’s a link to LRT Training in Hull
http://www.lr-training.co.uk/homepage.htm
And Corridan’s in Scunthorpe
http://corridans.co.uk/index.php/transport-courses/adr-course
Both offer Classes 1 and 7, but you may have to wait for those courses because they don’t usually run very often.
There are other providers, but you’d have to do some travelling to get to them.
Just as a tip… Classes 1 and 7 will need one whole day EACH.
Looks like I’ll take a rain check on that. Thanks for the help though.
Give Jenny at JMW Training a call, at Glentham near Caenby Corner.

Not a lot of people do, probably about 8-10 firms and none of them are large size companies. All my lads have ADR 1, but we don’t do 7.
Are Fireworks not Class 1 ADR?

Yes they are.
Not sure about Class 7, but (as mentioned) a few niche companies ship Class 1. There is a Logs firm in Wallingford who ship stuff on behalf of the MoD but it’s sporadic…

Surprised at that…At what quantity do they come under the regs, as the local “firework” seller has a 7.5T box van that has a fold out sales bit and the box is chocker and he definitely ain’t got ADR !

I took fireworks on agency without ADR when I first passed. Has to be below a certain rating. NEC or NEG I think, one of the two.

class 1: construction companies, mining industry
class 7: oil industry, health related (x-rays and so on)
I had class 1 for fireworks

It’s definitely not sporadic, they are a major customer of mine, though far from my biggest. And I don’t get involved with the rail or containers to ship moves that they do. It isn’t just the MoD they work for, they also act as a shipper for other Comapanys and foreign agencies. They have reduced their own fleet an awful lot.
I can’t remember what the NEQ is on fireworks stuff which is mostly 1.4S, but you can shift a surprising amount ( NEQ- Net Explosive Quantity ) before the regs kick in. Diesel Dave will know off the top of his head.
We don’t move fireworks.
If it glow’s or blow’s I want to be as far away from it as possible !!

No question about it, if it’s a choice between hitting one of my trailers or hitting a petrol tanker, hit mine - it would a lot safer than hitting volatile fuel.

It depends mate, class 1 has 6 sub classes, with 1.1 being the most dangerous and 1.4 being the lease dangerous. If fireworks are classified 1.1(highly explosive compounds etc.) ADR is mandatory and quantity is limited(50kg UK and 20kg Europe). If they are 1.4 might be up to 500kg before ADR kicks in.

Hahahaha…So the six or more pallets he drives about with and sells must come under the regs then. That would be an interesting DVSA stop !
How do Cowboys get away with this ?
Pretty much all fireworks come under 1.4S, though there are some 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, usually G.
He could have 6 pallets of 1.4S on and the total NEQ would be the determining factor of if it came under regs. Diesel Dave is the man for this, but if IIRC, the threshold for placarding and ADR training for 1.4S is surprisingly high. There is every chance he is running legal. For example, he might have 6 pallets with a gross weight of 2300kgs, but the NEQ may only be 300kgs and it’s the NEQ that determines placarding etc.
