Hi Dolph,

Sorry mate, but the info and references in that link are EXTREMELY out of date. ( = more than 10 years :open_mouth: )

albion:
Pretty much all fireworks come under 1.4S, though there are some 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, usually G.

He could have 6 pallets of 1.4S on and the total NEQ would be the determining factor of if it came under regs. Diesel Dave is the man for this, but if IIRC, the threshold for placarding and ADR training for 1.4S is surprisingly high. There is every chance he is running legal. For example, he might have 6 pallets with a gross weight of 2300kgs, but the NEQ may only be 300kgs and it’s the NEQ that determines placarding etc.

Hi albion,

You’re spot-on if we just add 1.4G to your list… but now for the strange part.

1.4S is unlimited, therefore there is no limit because 1.4S is in ADR Transport Category 4.

1.4S.jpg

When carrying 1.4S, an ADR licence is NOT required (regardless of NEQ)
When carrying 1.4S, orange plates are NOT required (regardless of NEQ)
When carrying 1.4S, vehicle placarding is NOT required (regardless of NEQ)
When carrying 1.4S, the normal ADR documentation is NOT required for a UK journey (regardless of NEQ)

Now for the bits of ADR that DO apply:
The driver needs ADR awareness training that has been documented. (NOT an ADR licence.)
The vehicle needs 1 X 2kg ADR compliant dry powder (or equivalent) fire extinguisher.

Sorry mate, I ain’t the expert of it(learn it only for the exam), you are correct regarding 1.4S. If I remember the exam manual there was 1.4G and 1.4B, which had limit of 333kg and 500kg under CDG. Well better have a licence and not worry about, what, when, where some planner had done.

Most important: don’t let anyone for any reason mix on your load class 1 with other classes unless is 1.4S, my lecturer kept saying that :grimacing:

Hi Dolph,
No need for an apology mate, I was just pointing out that the info is very out of date in case you were relying on it for some other reason.

You’re correct that 1.4B to 1.4G (and 1.6N) have a limit of 333kg NEQ for ADR and a limit of 500kg NEQ for a UK journey.

You’re also correct about planners too! :grimacing:

Your lecturer was spot-on with that, and it still applies today.
