I bet most of you lot on here wouldn’t do half the crap you claim you would ie drive off etc, if I did that knowing my luck I’d get the sack. Please share how you get away with it, best I can do when I’m really upset is shut my mouth for the whole job/delivery & possibly the day, that usually shows the customer that they need you more than them when they start asking for stuff…

It seems like some people on here have a real problem with “abusive” or rude customers, its like it happens to them most days… I rarely meet anyone thats grumpy let alone anyone thats wants a fight… 99% of the people i meet are genuinely very nice, today for example the goods in staff at a food company brought up my age then gave me a lemon sponge cake and a 12boxes of fruit jelly sweets as its my birthday and at the next company i went to, first thing they said was, “would you like a drink?”…

Same here although I’m 27 in September lol people ■■■■ themselfs when I turn up on there drives I look about 21i get asked “how long have you been driving” I reply a week but I’m insured its fine I love it

Used to deliver to one place in East Yorks, the forkie wasn’t so much abusive as down right miserable and constantly moaning, and initally was not a great place to go. I tried having a chat with him one day, and it turned out he was actually a decent bloke, who was just frustrated at the way things were done. The company had the first come first served policy, and when a gobby driver turned up, “i need tipping now, i’ve gotta go mate, so get me tipped” the forky would just say “we’re all busy mate, you get done in order, and i’ll get to you as soon as i can”…He could have done him first, but his attitude was, make an effort with me, and i’ll make an effort with you, but come in shouting ya mouth off, and you’ll wait.
I reckon with most forkies/goods in staff you can usually work out how to play them on an individual basis. On Hull docks my favourite line when turning up 15 minutes before mugga to get told they wouldn’t do me until after teabreak/lunch was “Don’t blame you mate - I’d do the same. I’ll pop the curtains and have break myself - see you in a bit”.
9/10 that ended up with me being asked for my notes, some comment about it taking no time to do and getting loaded in record time. If it didn’t, I just popped the curtains and took a break.
Another is when you tell them you’re not bothered cos you’re on hourly pay. I think they don’t like the fact that them not loading/tipping you is beneficial to you so they tip/load you out of spite completely unaware that is what you actually wanted.
I see the whole deal with getting tipped/loaded as being a game of chess.

Like Saaamon said though, I’ve yet to experience these abusive acts! Weirdly though I’ve been on home delivery on weekends and not had a absuive customer yet in 8 months. Had someone try and start on a driver’s mate for some reason/slight undertone of something that wasn’t appropriate. But we closed him down in under a minute and got him helping us to unload in the end!
They always crack in the end, like a weakened shell when they realise they can’t break you down!

Hats off to the Scots, after spending last night over the border, found them extremely helpfull. Pure Flour at Livingston letting me overnight at their premises with use of their facilities.
London bakeries on the other hand, seem to provide a team of staff to watch you struggle…
