I see your logo is that of a triumph bike take it you have never taken her over the national speed limit, sure you would be pretty annoyed if every time you did Miss Marple rang the police. Not having a dig just putting it from another perspective
yes I have, but we`re talking about suicidal overtakes here.
You wouldn’t have them if your doing well above 40 but below 50, well not the trucks any way, I’ve had plod creep up behind whilst doing 47 on a S/C and nothing was done about it.
Doing 40 or less is dangerous not only for you, but for other road users, I’m not condoning you wanting to do limit, but coming on here and moaning about it won’t get you any sympathy.
You can’t get done for keeping up with the flow of traffic, If some numpty wants to go flat out, I will follow him flat out, on me own I will do between 45 and 48.
Obviously there are some forces stricter than others!
I’m sorry officer I was just keeping up with the flow of traffic I’m sure that will work in a court of law
The limit is the limit go over it at your own risk
The speed limit is 40, that is the MAXIMUM speed for trucks. It is not the average speed, it is not the suggested speed it is the maximum.
“Drive at a realistic speed… Tossing the job off”
FFS is driving at 40 on a s/c unrealistic?
Tossing the job off? Salaried…
The law may be archaic but it is still the law, and as I require my licence to be able to work then I shall try to keep it clean.
I am not a “grass” but when somebody does something that could kill me or anyone else then you may call me grassy grassy grass grass. I don’t want to die because some mad idiot is chasing a ferry…
I love the way all the ‘Hero’ drivers insist on doing 45-50+ & the Fuzz will leave you alone !
All it takes is a strategically placed Revenue Camera/Van, just over the rise of a hill or round a bend & ‘BLAT’ 3 points & £60 lighter & if it’s deemed dangerous you might have to explain to the Traffic Commissioner why you were speeding/driving like a Kok !
Then you are supposed to declare it on your insurance for the next 5 years (or you might as well not be insured if you don’t tell 'em)
Then you are worried about the next 3 points for the next 3 years, or even 6 points (& only one more Kok up until you loose your licence/living)
So ‘Hero’ HGV Drivers, carry on, with any luck you will all get caught & eventually Banned, causing a shortage of employable drivers, which in turn might raise the rates for doing the job & encourage Professional People into the industry.
Just to add- I’m all for the speed limits to be raised on appropriate sections of road, but we are stuck with this speed for now !

Sorry? Who is gonna pull you when your keeping up with 2 other trucks? A copper would only be able to pull the lead vehicle!!!
Well I am gutted because just when I thought my licence is clean as my 3 points expired this month I went and did 84 in a 60 on my motorbike and got a lovely NIP through the post. I am just upgrading to Class 1 test this Friday. So when I get back out there in my usual rigid or class 1 hopefully I WILL be doing 40 on single roads and no more. The queue of traffic can wait and if they are mad about it they can go see their MP BUT I WILL BE OBEYING THE LAW

I have the dubious pleasure of driving along this road at various times of the day and night between Whitchurch and the M54. Most of it is 40mph s/c but this limit seems to be totally disregarded by some, indeed many, drivers. Sitting at 40 feels like being a red rag to a bull. Some drivers will overtake when it is safe to do so but others seem to have a blatant disregard of human life and will get halfway past and simply cut in. Twice last night I was forced to brake to avoid being run off the road as a wagon cut in on me, and the driver of the tanker coming the other way certainly had a brown trouser moment when he came round a bend to see a wagon coming straight at him on the wrong side of the road, I braked sharply and the tanker obviously did the same otherwise there would have been a fatality. Meanwhile the overtaker carried on regardless. I presume these drivers are much better than me and able to chuck a 44tonner around like a rally car. I must be becoming soft as I am content to sit at the speed limit even though I fear for my safety. Professional drivers? FFS!
Where are the boys in blue when you need them?
The standard of driving has deteriorated beyond all doubt. Its no good other drivers saying that you should be driving at such and such a speed. There is far to much aggressive and appalling driving on the road these days, such as the incident on the A41 which happened to you.
Its high time that the Police clamped down on it.

How does your boss feel about that?
I don’t care how he feels about it, that is what I will be doing. A lot of drivers are on their limiters on 40mph roads. OK if you have a clean licence and you are willing to gain 3 points but if you already have points you may find it hard to get work anyway when you go past 6. The boss can moan all he wants but he dare not tell you to speed up, VOSA will have his operators licence!

i’m 1 of the lorry drivers that travel that road weekly. why done u get yourself a cb set and drive them yoke on.these v8’s we drive dont sit well at 40mph.if u want to drive at 40mph so be it.why cant you 40mph drivers just not use your common curtiousy and signal to us when the road is clear ahead…when we go to overtake why cant yous take the foot of the pedel for abit and let us go by u safely.its yous that are more danger on the road than us 50-56 mph drivers…and what is it about yous that when it comes to a dualcarrage way yous can manage to put the speed upto 56 and not let anyone pass…thats is just pure thick.

Probably what the OP does, just like the majority of drivers that claim they stick to the 40mph limit!

Where do you draw the line? 45? 50? Limiter? Everyone has different levels of perceived risk. I used to go around 45 on open straights, but since joining a firm with trackers and being warned in advance to not take the mick out of the traffic laws, it’s dropped to 42mph max. I don’t feel sorry for cars as they should be able to overtake, and they hold me up often enough. As for the lorries, I am in despair at the amount of drivers going right up my ■■■ trying to intimidate me into going faster, when I am already doing over the speed limit.
I am not about to slow us both down to a standstill to remonstrate with these guys, as I have a feeling it would be a wasted conversation where I would be made out to be stupid and hopeless for daring to hold someone up.
My opinion, for some people there will never be a ‘fast enough’ speed. And I am not hanging the job out, my company would like me to drive sensibly and stay legal. It is a bit of a pain for fuel economy though as I feel the motor would run better around 45 and not hang on to 11th gear. If it makes you speed freaks feel any better, I get annoyed when stuck behind another lorry doing 38mph, just in case his cab explodes if he should hit 40. I always try and do at least the limit (allowing for speedo inaccuracy aswell) if conditions allow.
Sorry if this is starting to sound a bit self righteous but I try and help the guy behind get past, it is in my interest after all. You can feel the disdain oozing out of every pore as they hit the limiter on the dual carriageway and get past you. I give them a flash which tends to get ignored, just to make a point. Nobs.

Good job there isn’t a grammar test involved in obtaining said licence…
I actually know where Milkchurns is coming from here. There’s nothing wrong imo with following a guy who wants to do 40 on a s/c, I’ll happily sit all day behind him. The problems come when you reach a short stretch of d/c and they’re straight up to the limiter, then back down to 40 on the s/c. You can’t cherry pick which laws you’re happy to break and which ones you’re not. It’s just not cricket chaps!
