A41 Your life in their hands

I have the dubious pleasure of driving along this road at various times of the day and night between Whitchurch and the M54. Most of it is 40mph s/c but this limit seems to be totally disregarded by some, indeed many, drivers. Sitting at 40 feels like being a red rag to a bull. Some drivers will overtake when it is safe to do so but others seem to have a blatant disregard of human life and will get halfway past and simply cut in. Twice last night I was forced to brake to avoid being run off the road as a wagon cut in on me, and the driver of the tanker coming the other way certainly had a brown trouser moment when he came round a bend to see a wagon coming straight at him on the wrong side of the road, I braked sharply and the tanker obviously did the same otherwise there would have been a fatality. Meanwhile the overtaker carried on regardless. I presume these drivers are much better than me and able to chuck a 44tonner around like a rally car. I must be becoming soft as I am content to sit at the speed limit even though I fear for my safety. Professional drivers? FFS!
Where are the boys in blue when you need them?

Buy a decent dash cam and send the results to the boss of the crazy one…Just perhaps slowly the idiots will end up unemployed .

The A41 is pretty notoroious with its mixture of chicanes and large stretches of straight sections.
If you doing 40mph then your legal and although annoying to some other road users thats just their tough ■■■■, most cars will have no problem overtaking you at this speed and there are even some long stretches for a HGV with a death wish to get past.

A dash cam will be your best friend and although you can’t control what others do at least your prepared for it.

Stick to 40, ‘F’ ‘Em’.

They are obviously ‘Expert’ HGV Drivers & above the Law.

As others have said, get a dash cam or install Black Box on the Iphone (or Android, I think) Then when these ‘So Called’ HGV Drivers start ‘Playing’ around with you life & living, a little nod to Mr Plod wouldn’t go amiss  (duck down & await the Flack from all the ex cons on here who don’t agree with ‘Grassing People Up’ :unamused: )

If you’ve got a big line of vehicles behind you, there’s nothing stopping you from pulling into a layby to let the pass (but you can’t stop in every one !)

Either drive at a realistic speed or use the lay bys and let the drivers who want to get on with go by.

Too many drivers tossing the job off and hiding behind an archaic barely enforced law.

Barely enforced ■■? WTF…have a prang and see how barely enforced it iis.
Yep its a pain but its the law. Wait and see how many drivers on the top of the A9 get done by the new linked cameras next year. Or the new way Vosa / Police want to get info in real time from your tacho on a satelite link.
Instead of moaning about people being sensible with their licence try writing to your MP about upping the limit to 50.
Lunatic overtaking kills people regularly.

Keep her just below 50mph and you will get no trouble from the police when you are at the head of 6 or 7 lorries your 40 translates to below 30 for the seventh lorry. On the two occasions when I have been done for speeding on the A75 on both occasions the coppers words were " keep her off the limiter as that is kicking the arse out of it but keep her just below 50 and we will not bother you" this on a road that is about the most heavily policed as regards lorries in the UK.
Slightly off topic but when did we become such a profession of touts if you don’t like what the driver ahead or behind you is doing then when he stops go up to him man up and tell him to his face he was driving like an idiot, if you haven’t the guts to do that then just let it go instead of sneaky phone calls to his boss. The police are there to police the roads not a bunch of amateur Inspector Clouseau’s

people like that deserve grassing up.

they are dangerous, but too thick to realize it

And are probably paid per load or are trying to pay off the HP on a knackered unit pulling containers for a big company that owe them thousands !!!

it`s no excuse

I see your logo is that of a triumph bike take it you have never taken her over the national speed limit, sure you would be pretty annoyed if every time you did Miss Marple rang the police. Not having a dig just putting it from another perspective

yes I have, but we`re talking about suicidal overtakes here.

dont get me wrong...I dont mind anyone “cracking on a bit”…but some of the overtakes i witness,on single carriageways(especially at night),are absolutely crazy.
these are the people who Im talking about....the ones who simply dont give a ■■■■ whether they kill anyone or not.

keep her off the limiter…

Limiter?! I hope you weren’t first off the boat sir!

Question; why is everyone in a hurry? It’s only work and if you get through the working week safely, park the truck up & go home, it invariably starts again next week.
So, do you drive like a suicide jockey every week saving minutes here & there?
If so, where are all these ‘saved minutes’, stored?
Can they be banked then used at a later date, I think not!
No doubt we’ve all watched the various motorway cop programmes & seen the carnage?
How many times have we all thought," Jesus, that was close, got away with that one?
How many threads on this very forum saying RIP, he was a top geezer, just doing his job?
Life is more than just work & it’s very precious. Think about it lads(& lasses!)

All the little leprechauns in a rush! as most of the paddys who have a United Kingdom passport, most will do as they’re told = for queen and country! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: it’s like ripping up the glenshane pass in a rush to get to Londonderry. :sunglasses: or the a49 down to ballynahinch, please don’t kill the children, think of the children! all on your digi, tacho NO LIES! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

You wouldn’t have them if your doing well above 40 but below 50, well not the trucks any way, I’ve had plod creep up behind whilst doing 47 on a S/C and nothing was done about it.
Doing 40 or less is dangerous not only for you, but for other road users, I’m not condoning you wanting to do limit, but coming on here and moaning about it won’t get you any sympathy.
You can’t get done for keeping up with the flow of traffic, If some numpty wants to go flat out, I will follow him flat out, on me own I will do between 45 and 48.
Obviously there are some forces stricter than others!
