A34 overtaking ban

So how long has that been in action ? ( somewhere south of Oxford ) The over 7.5 tonne overtaking ban up hill ! there was no way today I was sitting behind some pile of swede ■■■■■ in low box when iam max speed and coming up behind another which I estimate to be doing about 25 mph .

About 2 years if not 3

Your joking :open_mouth: :open_mouth: , never noticed !

It’s been in a while Dan, now if you had a sensible engine like a Gardner in your truck it wouldn’t bother you one bit! The three mile queue behind you might object though.

Pete.

That will never happen , zb Gardners lol , ■■■■■■■ the only way Pete

They should’ve put in a minimum speed limit when that ban came in, who in their right mind sits behind Farmer Palmer in his latest subsidy fiddle, Dobbins’ rotten Iveco or a crawling convoy of army trucks?

Tend to ignore them when I’m flat out, like I’m going to sit behind some supermarket codger at 30 when I can be on the limiter all the way up and getting a healthy 75 on the way down.

Probably not the best idea for an operator to be expressing it quite so strongly. :astonished: especially when seemingly admitting exceeding the speed limit, what with such a high profile fatal having occurred on that stretch of road. :unamused:

It’s the stretch where the fella wiped out the mother and kids last year.

i regularly get over taken when I’m goin up it, can’t blame them though, supermarket motors don’t like them sort of hills

i pull flat out up there at 44t and theres no way i will back off so out we go if needed

The sad part is that they felt they had to put this ban into place to stop bellends that had just a couple more clicks turning it into a rolling roadblock. And when some ■■■■ does eventually get past you, they take your nose off as they’ve been out there so long! :imp:
Leaving the only alternative to avoid this, by backing off yourself and losing momentum… :unamused:

90 ks that’s all , no speeding here ,to put a ban on a road that steep seems madness ,it would be better to ban loaded overtakes or some other idea ?

Minimum speed limit on the outside lane seems sensible.

Some road sign enforcement police action is needed for you crazy lot.

Both the A34 and the M11 have this restriction on switchback sections of road. There are advance signs warning of the upcoming restriction. In both examples a driver who is even only just awake can see quite clearly, from a considerable distance, the nature of the road ahead. Hgv drivers are supposed to be professionals, more aware than the average driver of their surroundings and the capability of their own and other drivers vehicles, is it really so difficult to predict that it might be a good idea to back off for the next mile or so? and if you claim that you can’t see because of the vehicle in front, then you are too ■■■■■■■ close to it.

Jesus wept.

Seen it way too often - trucker thinks he’s got 1000 hp and then finds out halfway up in the right hand lane that he hasn’t and the “slow” vehicles are undertaking him and getting to the top first.

It’s way too…

Big a restriction not to notice. That’s getting into the realms of due care and attention.

It’s one tiny little bump on the A34. Just expect to have to slow down for someone slower, you’re looking at another 30 seconds on your journey time. The accident that occured there last year involved a driver looking at his phone for seven seconds.

‘I’ve got 44 tons’ …so what? The majority of us on here have 44 tons. Slow down drive it sensible and worry about more important things.

If my memory serves me correctly, most of Germany has blanket overtaking bans for HGVs from 7 in the morning til 9 in the evening. That’s something to ■■■■■ about

So what happens in Germany when you catch up with a tractor or similar, or are we talking about motorway type roads?
An LGV no overtaking zone is fine, but what happens when you get stuck behind a limper doing 45 mph, hanging his job out?
On the A34 there are too many old ■■■■■, farmers and the odd suicidal cyclist to impose a blanket ban unless minimum speed limits were introduced.

Dangerous bit of road… ought to put a speed limit in place and stick some cameras just as you go pass Wantage and that…
