In Germany,an overtaking ban is exactly that.Speed is irrelevant.Older drivers will remember when the wall came down and the western autobahns were full of eastern IFA trucks and drawbar trailers wandering about powered by lawn mower engines.A ban is a ban.Similarly on national roads, where there is a 60k limit and you try to drive at,say 80k,there are a lot of German car drivers who are frustrated policemen who will overtake you and slow down to 60.

2 or 3 years? It was first introduced on a one year trial basis in 2010 and was made permanent in 2011. It beggars belief that a so-called professional driver would fail to notice the signs
Makes you wonder how the Germans have coped with overtaking bans all this time…

Just like it beggars belief that so many blokes on the boxes don’t appear to know there is a similar restriction on the A14 for a stretch between Desborough and Catthorpe.

This one is ignored by many drivers as indeed is the M11 one.
Wow I am trucknet criminal of the week , I can count on my 3 and a half fingers the number of times I’ve used that stretch in recent times ,err ooh hang on what’s after 2

Same as me Dan. I live less than an hours’ drive from there, yet I haven’t driven a truck down that way for nearly two years, we just don’t do any work in that area. I only drive that way when going on holiday. A bit like me driving up towards Birmingham and asking “how long’s such and such been there?”
What M11 overtaking ban?
The M42 overtaking ban is intriguing.I understand that the intention is to enable lighter vehicles to crack but the restriction finishes a few hundred yards before the brow of the hill when we all start to speed up again. You would expect it to finish on a downhill stretch.

Another fine example of…
Road planners who have no idea at all of what they’re actually trying to achieve.
They also specialise in adding lanes then having them painted out again, putting lights on roundabouts and then not putting a timer on them (6am til 9pm) and the ability to plan one set of roadworks to finish at the exact same hour as another one starts.
I drive up and down there in my car fairly often (family in Pompey). I can usually spot the idiot ahead who is going to pull out at 55 or less into a traffic stream doing 70 plus, but I have often seen some car drivers panic when they assume that “professional” drivers will obey the rules.
Evil8Beezle:
The sad part is that they felt they had to put this ban into place to stop bellends that had just a couple more clicks turning it into a rolling roadblock. And when some ■■■■ does eventually get past you, they take your nose off as they’ve been out there so long!Leaving the only alternative to avoid this, by backing off yourself and losing momentum…
the cars you mean.

That’ll be because they haven’t actually implemented it yet…

What M11 overtaking ban?
There aint one it was a time trial , they say it saved 2 min on a car try to get home, i think they dont need our help any way, they cause there own jams, then they cut in to the lorry lane .o they are going to impleyment it this year some time. Any spell checkers out there just amend what needs amending
None of the above. it’s not the roads, it’s the USERS.
