See all this crap about being tracked etc etc… I drive for either Morrisons or Gist on agency, both are companies that track their vehicles. I hammer the arse out of them, rev the nust off them, slam the brakes on and go as fast as the wind will take me and have never ever once been pulled up.
We get the same at our place, they track the full timers but dont bother with the agency lads, when we asked why they replied if they speed to much we just tell the agency not to send them again
I’m sick to the back teeth of this ■■■■■■■ subject
We all knew what we were getting into when we took the training and passed the test.
Whether we feel the limits are out of date or not, they are LAW.
So if your stuck behind me, and I’m sticking to my limits, either deal with it and do likewise, or I’m more than happy to pull into the next layby and discuss it further. Either way your gonna be late for next delivery/collection

Well done you , I bet you stand and laugh at drivers who are struggling to back onto tight bays too .
and ■■■■ on the tarmac at the services instead of walking 100 yds
and get bays coned off when your hours are up at RDC’s
Anyway if your on the agency , does it not make more sense for you to trundle along enjoying the view . More time =more money doesn’t it
No, I stop and help, just as I like help when I’m struggling.
No, that’s utterly disgusting.
No, that’s bull
No, money is not everything. I make enough to pay the bills with some left over. I enjoy my free time to much to waste it in a ■■■■■■ layby
I simply get my finger out and get on with the job. It’s not enjoyable watching the rev counter and ■■■■■■■■ myself if it goes 1rpm over the green band.
I was doing 40 on the A17 and someone rang my boss to say I must be overloaded as I couldn’t manage more than 40 . They will be the first to moan if you rear end their granny at 50 and kill her, hang him for speeding they will say.
A17 racetrack■■? You’re being a bit of a drama queen as that road is many things, but fast is not one of them.
I can count on one hand the amount of drivers who have used the horn or flashed the lights as a result of my driving in the past 6 months, yet you seem to get all this several times a week. Something doesn’t quite add up.
Oh ok Maurice I must be lying then been as though you dont think things add up. Big shout out to the Morrisons driver and Asda drivers last night who sat patiently behind me at 40mph as far as Beckingham where I stayed at 40mph and they overtook me on the dual carriageway as I DO NOT SPEED up on the dual carriageway bits!!! Strange how VOSA have been working near Cranwell how quickly all the speed merchants drop to 40mph!!!

Just yesterday followed ESL truck for 5 miles or so…38-40mph strictly…then we had a short stint of dual carriageway…and he went full steam ahead…back to single carriageway…40again…and wont let overtake…thats worst IMHO

If you want to stick to the speed limits then help drivers behind by sticking to the speed limit when you hit the dual carriageway! I have no problem if you stick to the limit, but don’t try and police the roads yourself, I think drivers doing 40mph on s/c whether they be cars or trucks cause more accidents than anything else! I’ve been stopped a couple of times years back on the A17 for speeding, thankfully both times I was let go with a bollocking, on one occasion the copper said don’t ride the limiter and keep it under 50mph and you won’t get problems.
I do 40 on singles, and when I join a dual, if there’s a queue, I stick around 40 whilst they pass and slowly creep upto the 50 limit.
I’m not there to police the road, and if I see it’s clear, I’ll give a left indicator flash to let them know that it’s worth a look if they want to get past, but I’m not going to speed up for anyone.
I was on day rates last year, and I still stuck to the limits, it’s not about earning an extra 50p on hourly pay, it’s about not paying out a days wages in speeding fines for me.
I have never seen a Stobart truck obeying the 40mph limit. They frequently overtake me on the s/c stretches of the A5 on their way in and out of the depots at Crick/DIRFT. FYI my vehicle has a tracking device in it which tells the office exactly where I am and how fast I am going. Strangely anyone who exceeds the 40mph speed limit gets called into the office for a discussion about it.
bubsy06:
Coach with 50 kids and a driver weighing in at about 20 tonnes can do 50mph, 7.5 ton vehicle with one driver limited to 40mph, crazzyyyyy
More so on a motorway, other than the limiter, the coach can still legally go at 70mph fully loaded, even a double deck coach, but a solo unit on it’s own, 60 / 55ish limited.

The speed limits are so out of date, people no longer have to open the door and push there foot onto the wheel to slow down, we have breaks with abs, hfg, eid, soow, dkdo, dkie, djkls and not forgetting hduuud
I myself get a fair few trucks tailing me along that stretch. I go quite often from Mansfield A617-A46 all the way along to the A17 Boston. There is a number of our drivers that I know that fly along that stretch which I certainly dont. Yeah it maybe open in a number of places but is it really worth it in the end, does the RED ROUTE signs tell us much?
I do feel for the other drivers that can exceed 40 cars etc but at the end of the day the law as it stands currently is the law. If I was to take a corner too quick and stick it in the ditch im sure my boss or the hospital / patient who was waiting for my delivery wouldnt be too happy.
With having NHS plastered all over my vehicle I would have thought it would be a big incentive for our drivers to set a example and its not like we are salaried so i cant understand the big rush.
I personally tend to do anything between 45-48 on single trackers, through my own preference, not with any pressure from the boss or anything. I just find 40mph to be far too slow for a modern wagon and it only encourages other motorists, cars, trucks or whatever to go for stupid overtakes as you are holding them up. I did get a speeding ticket on the A17 a couple of years ago doing 53 on single track and I held my hands up and thought fair play, I cant complain about it because that’s what they have caught me at! A traffic cop who I know also said the majority of bobbies will not bother you so long as you’re under 50mph and not driving dangerously. This obviosuly isn’t a defence if I get stopped but I do think you seem to keep up with the flow of traffic better doing 45-48mph. Also you get to know which roads are frequented by mobile or static cameras and also police patrols.

So if you’ve got time to pull over for a chat, why not just pull in and let other traffic past?
