Well, well, well, “Supersub”, I see you’ve joined the 21st century like the rest of us, and how are you doing Alan, it’s nice to hear from you, hope your keeping well and healthy, lets hope we can get as many of us together in the next few weeks and have a chin wag and chew the fat over and in general have a laugh together.
Remember when we flew home for Christmas from Milan along with Taffy Davis, we got off the plane in Manchester like three high class businessmen, with umbrellas and all and with the old brief case, there were also a couple of drivers from another company, they had a car laid on for them and we had to organise our own way home, but enough said of that. nice to hear from you and hope to see you all soon, :-Jack. :sunglasses:  :grimacing:

  :open_mouth:

Thanks Alan, Keith I think is on holiday, but he’ll be reading this and you can thank him yourself, I have sent an email to Franks wife Sandra to let him know about it, I missed the last two because I was in the US, but there’s no chance I’d miss another, I often talk to my daughter about that trip, I think we all went home skint, but the girls loved it, and it was all for them, remember when Stuart tipped you into the sea and he thought you were drowning, the look on his face was a picture he didn’t know you could swim, will be seeing you soon, :-Jack

I used to have a steady job in Bradford driving a four wheeler for Parrotts running out of Hepworth and Grandages foundry. John Parrott was a really decent bloke to work for. I dont know if he was a man of vision but he got out of haulage before the Hepworth group ran into financial trouble, So I found myself working for Aone not a bad firm to work for especially when they replaced Parrotts vintage vehicles. I tried to avoid the Leeds yard and the poison dwarf [Hutchinson ] Someone told me recently at a funeral in Bradford the poison dwarf can be found at the Bilton Cricket Club in Harrogate. Groundsman? The lads at Bradford were a good bunch and at dinnertime we had some good kickabouts behind the Cafe that Phylis ran. I always found Jack Robbie a decent guy and one day he told me he was bored and what could I suggest I said go to the races but he said if he was interested in horses he would buy a string of them, I then said to go home change into casual clothes pack a bag get your passport and get on the next wagon going over the water. What a good idea he said but I dont know if he did as I suggested, Then the wool men from Renwicks joined Aone a good set of lads but the manager was a clone of the poison dwarf. We never hit it off on his first day at Aone I didnt turn up until the afternoon [ locked up for drunk and disorderly ] From there it was all down hill until he told me I was on my way out so I gave him a right hander make my departure worthwhile, Started the next day for a pal of mine in the building game and earned more money than before. Retired to Blackpool met a wealthy woman [nicknamed the ■■■■■ chinky by one of my mates she is from Hong Kong ] See you at the reunion?

remember when this was taken Jack?

Hi Stuart, yes it was when I had the accident, he was a great guy, and to help someone from so far away, he has to be one of the best, I wish I knew where he was living now, the only thing I know was that he went to Miami, but if I had more info I would be paying him a visit when I’m over there, I went down to Miami the last week in Jan this year to deliver some steel with a friend of mine over there and was thinking of Bob, I’d have loved to have bumped into him, even if just to shock him, he was a good guy and I miss all the banter we had in Passau, the only thing I couldn’t keep up with him was when he went onto the whisky. :-Jack  :sunglasses:

Sorry Stuart but speak as you find and Im with maxhanger on this. Dont know why russell and me didnt hit it off but there you go. I never had anything to do with him before I transfered to M/bro but when I or any other M/bro driver turned up at gildersome he would totaly blank us. It became even worse after JMR sent 5 brand new F7s to M/bro, as I believe russell already had them assigned to his favered few. Me, a percieved new driver at M/bro and driving one of them on Jacks orders, turning up at depot asking for the driver manuals, must have been like a red rag to russell as hed already refused to send them up. Had a word with JMR, we went to the office where we found them locked in the safe, Jack asked if anything else wanted so asked for the kit that came with the motors. Back to the office where Jack was told all the bags of tools were in russells car boot. Jack got the keys to the car and opened the boot, tipped the bags out and told me “take what you want except the jacks cause some have been lost lately”.
As for working for russell, I never did. I worked for Jack, as did russell, and only because he had aquired Chapmans which was also one of, if not, the best.

Regarding people from the Bradford depot Dave Hoolie was featured in the Sun newspaper about 9- 12 months ago when he won a brand new van in a small business competition. Apparently he is now running his own small building company and had undertaken a job near the five rise locks in Bingley which involved barrowing thousands of barrows of concrete to repair part of the canal. Tough guy Dave ex foreign legion Ihad to laugh when he was described as an ex transport companies maintenance technician I remember him as Clive the plumbers labourer. And I was told Big Duncan the diesel fitter after leaving Aone went to the South of France got a job as a mechanic on an ocean going yacht got together with a gorgeous aussie girl went back after they finished on the yacht to Australia where Duncan found out his girlfriends father owned one of the largest sheep farms in the country, Talk about landing on your feet.
