I was looking through Flickr today and came across Jim Taylor’s collection “wagon of yesteryear” and was delighted to find amongst the 3000+ pictures,no less than 10+ separate pictures of the Aone fleet, from Daf2500 to volvo F86,F6s,F7,F10 and F12.
I think if anyone is interested it might be an idea to have a strole down memory lane. Most pictures were taken locally and include some other local fleet vehicles ie.Longs,McFarlanes,Eccles and Scott,JH Dews etc.
You got a link to his site ■■?
I have Yorkshire Terrier and here it is flickr.com/photos/jbschofie … 196706891/
hope you enjoy the pictures, please let me know what you think.noticed also some Thomas Sugden&sons flour merchants for Brighouse in there too.
regards
chris

A ones AEC dont know where picture was taken.
How many of the Ergo AECs did they operate?
I wouldn’t know how many AEC’s A1 had, because when the Mandator came out with the tilt cab I was still at JGFielders then to be Chapmans Freight Services, who bought DLS which was when they started going abroad, but A1 had quite a few but don’t know how many, I do remember I didn’t have one except for an odd trip if my lorry was in for a service, but I do remember they were very heavy on the steering but pulled like a train, they were far better than any ford we had at the time until Ford started fitting the ■■■■■■■ V8, we also had a Leyland semi automatic, it had the tilt cab like the AEC but was so easy to drive because the gear box was like the buses just one small lever on the right side and it was fast too, I dont know how many AEC’s we had but one we did try out was the V8 Mandator which Peter Scollick got, and that was a flying machine which he made good use of, I tried one on Demo when I was on night trunk but had to give it back and couldn’t believe how it pulled and also so fast, every time we stopped for a break I let everyone leave first just so I could blow them into the weeds a couple of miles further up the road. :- Jack.
To anyone reading A1 page, I’m looking for a new venue for our next reunion, I’d like it to be near to our old yard at Gildersome, I’m looking for a local club, working men’s club or a social club that will be glad of the custom also who will let us have a room for free, it’s not that we are tight but it always depends on how many A1 drivers and staff come, even a local pub that is big enough to accommodate up to about 40/50 extra customers, and depending on how many say they will be there to also have some food or snacks, Gildersome Morley area would be fine may-be some of you who live closer to the old yard than I do may have a better idea, I’m looking around August time this year, if anyone has John Holdroyd’s contact number I’d be glad to make contact myself to see if he has a better idea than myself, that’s if he still lives in that same area. Also Happpy new year to you all :- Jack Graham.

Hiya,
Hello Jack, The Geordie Truckers do that I attend about two or three
times a year isn’t a one firm thing we just use the Labour club in the
city centre state the date no time and drivers jut pop in and out and
no food as the lads usually make it an afternoon/early evening thing,
and have had the “nosebag” before attending, we always get the full
house and from lots of different firms, and for most of us it’s near
the bus terminus and me personally it’s very much the door to door
service the drivers are just mixed in with the club members and must
be a boost to the club takings on those days.
thanks harry, long retired.

Thanks harry_ gill", nice to see you doing your thing where you live, it would be nice to do the same but I live in North Yorks and a bit too far away to organise the same down Bradford /Leeds area, so it would need some-one closer the area to do the same and I’m retired too, and at 75 years old living on my state pension is too far to go down there too often, but you look like you have it planned in your area so good luck in your venture and give your lads my respects and drive safe. Jack.

Thanks “jeffery ellener”, if you could possibly get me a contact number or email address, I’ll contact them to see if we can arrange our next
meeting there, but I’ll try looking them up on the computer to see myself.
Regards :-Jack Graham.
jeffrey ellener:
Jack the phone no is 01132534127.
Thanks “jeffrey ellener” I did look them up on the internet, I managed to get there number & address but wrote them a letter to explain what we were doing etc, that we were in the area we wanted close to the old A1 yard, I’ll just give it a week or so to see if they reply and take it from there, I think it will be better to be close to the old yard, it’s easier for everyone and may-be better to be close to the old place, so I’ll just wait a few days for a reply then take it from there. Regards :-Jack.
Hi Everyone, just had a reply from Bruntcliffe working men’s club which is close to our old yard at Gildersome, I’m looking at taking the reunion closer to the old place, so I need as soon as possible to arrange a date for our next meeting which will be in September this year, I’d like someone to go look at the place for me since I’m up in Bedale North Yorks and a long way to go, so if there’s anyone out there who could help it will be a big help, the lady I spoke to was very helpful saying they have room but needed a date to make it possible, so please try letting me know when you want it to happen in September then we can start the ball rolling. :-Jack.
I was looking on Flikr on JB Schoefield’s site trucking nostalgia and on page 3 came across a picture from the 1992 Tipcon show which featured a STEYR in Aone colours and reg no. F650FUA looking brand new for the show.just thought someone might be interested in a look at it.
regards

It’s possible we could have seen them, but you must remember most of us were away most of the week, and some of us was away for up to 10/14 days at a time, and when we did come home it was usually late in the day when most firms were stopping work and going home themselves, although the name looks familiar but then many of them looked the same, but hope someone comes up with some sight of them on this thread.
