Think it was The Spread Eagle and Batoil on other side of xroads.
The Spread Eagle, that’s the one. Thanks.
Having seen the picture of Chapmans Seddon it brought back many memories,i travelled in this with Tommy Speight many times.I went with my dad when ever i could(Syd Henry}and knew more about the docks and transport cafes than any school lessons.Chapmans bought two Atki eight wheels 9669 UM and 878 AUM which my father had, think they where steel wagons.878 AUM caught fire while being driven by Albert Doyle.A can of easy start shorted out the battery under the seat.
Another old company was Roy Smith wakefield Rd Copeland st.Heres a picture of the seddon.
A ones AEC dont know where picture was taken.

Your right it was Roy Smith who bought it from Chapman, I remember it well now, when he looked at it first time to buy it he agreed a price then when he picked it up, Chapman had the tyres changed for old ones, the ones on it when he bought it had new ones on, he literally blew his top when he collected it when he saw the tyres had been changed, I thought he was going to strangle Donald Chapman, he almost burst a blood vessel and refused to take it until he put the good tyres back on, it was Roy who took the lid off, don’t know why but that’s the way he wanted it.
One thing for sure you have a better memory than mine thanks for reminding me, but it was a good old bus and did it’s work.

Jack do remember the this old trader on Fitzwilliiam St outside the old warehouse.
Your right it the front of the loading bay’s Fitzwilliam Street, I cant remember every Trader or who drove them but the numbers are early 1960’s, and the trailer was one of the many Carymore trailers single axel starting from 16ft up to about 30ft, then with tandem wheels going up to 40ft, but cant recognize the guy loading.
Interesting to know, the Trader was originally a 7ton tipper with a 5th wheel instead of a tipping body, and we loaded 4 high with wool even on the 26ft trailers but most of all we loaded 14 ton’s on every trailer and very often up to 18/20 ton’s, and they only had a 4 speed box until the latter ones before they went on to the tilt cab when they had a 5/6 speed box with a 2 speed axle.

Nice picture of John Carter doing what he liked most, he was one of the best driver’s ever and a good mate too, went with him a few times to second man him, it was just sad his eye-sight let him down latter in his working life, it was a pleasure knowing him and to be with anywhere with.

I remember my first new F88 290 RUA 982R at A1, it was the one in the Great Yorkshire show, it was also fully fitted out with 2 bunks when it was on show, but your dad got his hands on it before it was handed to me and he took the second bunk out for his own unit so they could sleep two in the cab, so I had my own made and fitted it with a nice soft sprung mattress far better than the original Volvo bed, so really I got the best deal, it also had a better paint job because it was the show truck and it kept it’s colour and shine right until the new F10’s came out which was about 3 years latter. Jack.
I was looking through Flickr today and came across Jim Taylor’s collection “wagon of yesteryear” and was delighted to find amongst the 3000+ pictures,no less than 10+ separate pictures of the Aone fleet, from Daf2500 to volvo F86,F6s,F7,F10 and F12.
I think if anyone is interested it might be an idea to have a strole down memory lane. Most pictures were taken locally and include some other local fleet vehicles ie.Longs,McFarlanes,Eccles and Scott,JH Dews etc.
