Sorry but I am unable to attend the reunion this year as I am looking after a pals smallholding in Dent while he and his wife go on holiday. Hope it is a great night for everyone, all the very best to all concerned.

Thanks for letting us know, up to now that’s about 4 that’s on holiday on the day, I just hope we get as many as last time “about 50”, because the response hasn’t been too good yet.
Just remember to let all your mates know it’s the 1st October same place same time and all the food has been ordered, thanks to Stuart Broughton.

Remember when i first started in 1976 there was a lot of trucks around with the old gold leaf writing on the doors, but when i started they had gone on to the yellow flying A stickers.only time i saw them doing the old sign writing was when the old atki got restored and was amazed watching the sign writers putting on the old gold leaf, all stickers now, never seen a truck come in our yard where i work now that had been sign written.keith

It’s the sign of the times we live in Keith, no real skills any more, just computerised stickers, but what ever they do they will never look as good as the real thing done by a real artist with a brush.

Hi Jack… was wondering if you could help with a name. Before transferring from London depot I was shunting the CNC trunk. Ive been trying to remember the night trunk drivers name. I know his first name was Aurthur but Im dammed if I can remember his surname. He lived in Boston Spa and you could`t mistake him as he always wore a cravat and was always dressed immaculately…Dave

Sorry Dave, I really dont know, my memory of names is worse than yours, I remember CNC but names to me mean nothing any more. :-Jack

hi Dave, only guy that i remember who wore a cravat was called jack broadbent,he all so was always well dressed, small guy, black hair.this guy moved to bridlington but also died there, keith

Hi Keith… no wasn’t Jackie. Aurthur used to drop night trunk from London at Fitzwilliam st and go home to B/Spa for the day with the unit, day shunter used to drop trailer for night trunk at his house. When we had MUM 478 a 150 big J they had to go to his house at B/Spa and wait till he was abed to change it for a new Volvo 86 unit that he didnt want. Heard tell he was at Tonys of Grantham one night with the rest of the night trunkers when a couple of lads started throwing food about and wouldnt take a warning. Apparently Aurthur reached over his head and heaved this lad out of his seat, over their table and into his mates on the following table, end of trouble. Last time I saw him hed dropped a tr loaded with glass from New Cross, London on the A1 at B/spa only when we picked it up we had to come in at an angle and pin didnt catch properly. Ended up on its knees when I pulled away, so off we went to a farmer he knew to borrow a jack. Farmer said only one was holding a tractor up being repaired, Aurthur just went over and shoved the tractor off it and said " its not now ", picked it up and off we went. Jacked trailer up, dropped him at home and went on to deliver at Suttons at Durham. Rang Harold Priest to tell him what had happened he said as long as no damage just carry on, didnt lose one bottle and legs were ok… Dave :astonished:

Hi guy’s, yesterday I spoke to Robin, we had a long talk and he told me that funeral details will be in the Telegraph & Argus, and also the Yorkshire Post, and it looks like it will be on the 26th at Lawnswood, which is Nr Horsforth just off the Leeds Ring road, about 11-40 am.
There was no guarantee of this being the correct time because he had left it up to the Airedale Funeral services, which is the Co-op just off Carr Lane, Shipley, when I get the correct details I will let as many know I can by phone or email.
Best regards :-Jack :frowning:

Couldn’t agree with you more Keith, they say the world is changing, and we have to advance along with the modern technology, but things and life will never be the same, were not allowed to relax and enjoy life any more, it’s all down to Elf n safety and not using your brain any more, and common sence is not even in the English language any more.
I dont agree with the riots, but thing need to change in this country or we’ll all be like robots in a few years time if it’s up to the EU. :-Jack

Well said I agree with you 100pc when will people realise when its time to stand up for what they have worked for all their life, before its too flaming late. Regards Larry retired from the goog old days. Which no doubt are gone forever…

went into Leeds’s center today,i thought i was in another country, all speaking different languages :frowning: time to move out of here where they speak English again

Thanks for the info about the funeral,Jack. I’m sure It will be very well attended, judging by the reaction from his drivers and friends on this forum.

I well remember seeing Jack swinging his number five iron club as he walked down the yard. Hitting a stone which went straight through a cab window! He was well liked and will be sorely missed.

See you all there this Friday

You should try Dewsbury market on Wednesdays, 100% Asian. We used to have a good well known market, not anymore I’m sad to say. :frowning:
